What is confirmed about the ring
Associated Press reported on January 6, 2025 that Zendaya wore the ring at the Golden Globes, which were held in early January 2025. The engagement itself was speculation at the time. AP described indirect clues rather than a direct statement from Zendaya or Tom Holland, and noted that representatives for both had not responded to requests for comment. The engagement account traced back to People, which cited a family source. Later fashion coverage calls it an engagement ring, but that label has not been confirmed by either person.
What “east-west” means
An east-west setting turns an elongated center stone sideways so its long axis runs across the finger. Vogue, in a January 7, 2025 article, contrasted this with vertical settings, which it said can elongate the finger and create an optical impression of a larger gem. The orientation is the defining feature of the look. A round or standard vertical solitaire would not read the same way on the hand.

The 5.02-carat listing
Forbes, writing on January 6, 2025, reported that the ring appeared to match a 5.02-carat East-West Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring listed on McCormack’s website. The listing describes an elongated cushion diamond in a Georgian-style cut-down setting, in 18-carat white and yellow gold. Forbes also noted that the price was not public on the site at the time.
Treat these details as a possible match. Nothing in the reporting shows that the listing is a formal confirmation of Zendaya’s personal ring, and the carat weight should not be repeated as a measured fact about her jewelry.

Is it actually a trend?
The evidence is editorial, not statistical. Vogue’s January 2025 coverage framed east-west engagement rings as a possible defining jewelry trend and quoted gemologist Olivia Landau predicting renewed attention to the style. A later British Vogue piece from 2026 said the style had seen an uptick in popularity. Vogue’s December 21, 2025 trend outlook for 2026 listed east-west settings among the elongated styles expected to appear.
None of these pieces cites sales figures, search volume, or market share. “Uptick in popularity” describes a direction that fashion editors observed. It does not establish how large the market is or how fast it is growing.

The clearest signal of product demand is that Stuller, a jewelry manufacturer and wholesaler, published east-west engagement ring designs on January 10, 2025, inspired by Zendaya’s reported style. That shows the category exists in the trade. It does not show how many buyers chose it.
Choosing a similar ring: what to compare
Coverage points to a few factors that change how the orientation looks and what it costs to wear. Vogue’s Landau also offered a practical warning about width.

- Ask for an itemized quote. It should list the stone’s shape, carat weight, color, clarity, and cut grade, along with the setting, metal type, and metal weight.
- Compare the same specification across sellers. A price for an east-west cushion in 18-carat gold is only comparable to another price for the same stone, setting, and metal.
- Confirm the stone’s origin in writing. Natural and lab-grown stones are priced very differently, and the difference should appear on the invoice.
- Get an independent appraisal. A valuation from a qualified appraiser before purchase gives you a reference point for insurance and resale.
- Check the return policy. Custom or made-to-order settings are often harder to return, so confirm that before paying a deposit.
- Do not pay a premium for the name alone. The association with a celebrity does not change the diamond, the metal, or the setting you are buying.
Buying a designer piece and buying a comparable east-west ring from a manufacturer are different decisions. The first costs more because of the brand, while the second lets you control the specification directly.
