This is an Australian guide to Australia Post’s recommended Christmas 2026 lodgement dates. There is no single “last posting date”: the right date depends on whether you’re sending a card, letter or parcel, the route, the service and whether the addresses are metro or non-metro. These are recommended dates for the best chance of arrival by Christmas, not delivery guarantees.
Xmas postage cut-off dates for Australian domestic parcels
Australia Post’s general domestic parcel dates are for Parcel Post sent to and from metro locations. The dates differ by destination, and a separate origin-and-destination matrix on the Australia Post Christmas cut-off dates and postage costs page should be checked for a specific route.
| Metro Parcel Post route | Recommended lodgement date |
|---|---|
| Within the same state, and listed routes in NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania | 23 December 2026 |
| To or within Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and sending to Western Australia | 22 December 2026 |
Geelong, the Gold Coast and Newcastle follow the listed metro dates. Australia Post asks senders outside metro areas to allow additional time. For Parcel Post lodged over the counter, the listed date assumes lodgement by 2:30 p.m.; check the local Post Office’s hours and the route matrix before relying on that deadline.

All dates in the table are in 2026. “Major European destinations” and other grouped regions do not necessarily cover every country, and some services may be unavailable or suspended for particular destinations. Confirm the exact country and service in Australia Post’s destination-specific listing; send earlier if your origin is outside the stated metro assumptions.

| Card type | Listed price and estimate | Eligibility and format |
|---|---|---|
| Small domestic Christmas card | $0.65 during November and December; standard letter service estimate of 3–7+ business days | Sealed envelope endorsed “Card only”; maximum 130 × 240 mm, 5 mm thick and 250 g |
| Large domestic Christmas card | $1.30 | Maximum 260 × 360 mm, 20 mm thick and 500 g |
| Eligible overseas Christmas card | $3 by Economy Air, with a 15+ business-day estimate, to one of 220+ destinations | Sealed envelope endorsed “Card only”; maximum 260 × 360 mm, 5 mm thick and 50 g |
The domestic small-card rate is specifically seasonal, applying during November and December. The overseas rate is for eligible cards and destinations, not every item of international mail. The listed estimates are not a promise of arrival by Christmas.
What the dates do—and don’t—promise
Australia Post describes these as recommended last lodgement dates to help items arrive in time, not guaranteed delivery dates. It says items posted after the dates will be delivered as quickly as possible but may arrive after Christmas. Route, service, lodgement time and non-metro locations can all affect timing.

- Delight in the magic of winter snow and hand-cut "snowflakes" with the Winter Whimsy stamps from the U.S. Postal Service.
- Featuring snowflakes in a digitally rendered design, the stamps evoke a beloved hand-cut paper craft with their perfect, delicate symmetry.
- The Winter Whimsy stamps are being issued in booklets of 20 Forever stamps.
- These Forever stamps will always be equal to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.
The seasonal volume helps explain why early lodgement matters: Australia Post reports that it delivered almost 111 million parcels during November and December 2025 on its 2026 Christmas dates page. Its advice is to send parcels as early as possible and by the relevant cut-off date.

- Identify the item. Decide whether it is a card or letter, a domestic parcel, or an international parcel or letter; the applicable date table and service rules differ.
- Match the exact route. For a domestic parcel, check the origin-and-destination matrix rather than relying only on the general metro summary. For international mail, search the destination-specific listing and confirm the service is available.
- Check the location assumption. The general dates are based on metro routes. Allow extra time outside metro areas and confirm route details with Australia Post or your local Post Office.
- Allow for the lodgement cutoff. For over-the-counter Parcel Post, lodge by 2:30 p.m. on the relevant date; also check when your local Post Office closes.
- Post earlier if you can. The listed dates are the recommended final dates for the best chance of Christmas arrival, not a reason to wait until the last day.
