Xbox announced a worldwide console price increase effective August 1, 2026: US$100 more for 512 GB models and US$150 more for 1 TB models. The company also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. Those are announced increase amounts, not a complete list of current prices; what you pay depends on your country, seller and model.
What changed, and when?
There are three distinct price stories: Xbox’s May 2025 recommended prices for US consoles and controllers, Microsoft’s 2025 expectation for some new first-party game prices, and Xbox’s later worldwide console increase taking effect August 1, 2026. They apply to different products and dates, so they should not be treated as one across-the-board price change.
Worldwide console increase effective August 1, 2026
In a June 25, 2026 notice, Xbox said console prices would rise worldwide by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models, effective August 1, 2026. Xbox also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. The announcement gives the increase amounts, but not a full current price list for every region or seller. Earlier US recommended prices for consoles and controllers

What was said about game prices
In May 2025, The Associated Press reported that Microsoft expected some new first-party games to reach US$79.99 during the 2025 holiday season. That was a forward-looking statement about some new releases—not a claim that every Xbox game would cost US$79.99, and not evidence of current 2026 prices. Why are Xbox consoles getting more expensive?
Xbox attributed the 2026 increase to higher storage and memory costs. In its June 25, 2026 notice, Team Xbox said those prices had increased by more than 2.5 times and forecast that they would double again by fall 2027. Those figures are Xbox’s explanation and forecast, not independently established market measurements. Read Xbox’s explanation.
Are controllers getting more expensive too?
The cited May 1, 2025 US price sheet establishes recommended prices for several Xbox controller types, but the June 2026 announcement describes a console price update. It does not announce a new controller increase. Compare the current price of the specific controller and edition you want with the dated US figures above; do not assume that a console increase applies to controllers.

How to find a lower-cost way to buy an Xbox
Xbox identified several possible routes, but did not promise that each would be available in every place or for every buyer. Compare the final local price and terms before choosing.
- Previously played consoles: Xbox said it was working with retailers on previously played consoles; its notice did not name a full list of participating sellers.
- Certified refurbished: Xbox said certified refurbished consoles were available through Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. Availability and the applicable discount can vary.
- Financing: Xbox said eligible hardware could be purchased through buy-now-pay-later or interest-free financing options. Terms, availability and eligibility vary by region. Financing changes payment timing; it should not be assumed to reduce the total cost.
- Compare the exact model: Check storage capacity and whether the console has a disc drive, then compare the current local price for the same configuration. A dated recommended price is not a reliable substitute for a live offer.
