Snow Lake Lithium’s planned electric mine did not become a producing operation on the schedule announced in 2022. The proposed hard-rock mine was in Manitoba, Canada—not the United States—and later SEC filings describe the Snow Lake Lithium Project as exploration-stage, with no mineral properties in production. The “world’s first” label was an ambition, not a verified achievement.
What Snow Lake Lithium proposed in 2022
In a November 16, 2022 interview, Snow Lake Lithium CEO Philip Gross described a plan to mine hard-rock lithium in northern Manitoba using all-electric equipment. The company intended to produce spodumene concentrate containing 6% lithium oxide, then connect that output to a proposed nearby plant that would convert spodumene into battery-grade lithium hydroxide. New Atlas reported that the company had signed a memorandum of understanding with LG for the plant and intended to use equipment from Swedish mining supplier Epiroc.
Those were proposed project arrangements as described in 2022. The sources reviewed do not establish that the LG plant was built or that Epiroc equipment was delivered. The proposed mine was in Canada, so the company’s supply-chain ambition is more accurately described as North American than American in the sense of being located in the United States.
How the hard-rock process was meant to work
The project was based on extracting lithium-bearing rock and processing it into spodumene concentrate. Gross summarized the basic sequence in the interview: “We’re doing hard rock,” he said. “You take the rock out of the ground, you smash it, and you take out the critical element you’re hoping to obtain.” The planned downstream step was to refine the concentrate into lithium hydroxide for batteries.

What the company forecast—and what it did not prove
Snow Lake Lithium projected annual output of approximately 160,000 tonnes of 6% spodumene concentrate and targeted an opening in 2025 or 2026, according to the 2022 New Atlas interview. Gross said that, if the project proceeded as planned, its lithium could support batteries for around 500,000 electric cars a year. These were company projections reported in 2022, not measured production or an independent estimate of actual battery supply.
The 2022 coverage also used “carbon-neutral” as a description of the proposal. The available sources do not establish measured lifecycle emissions or verify a carbon-neutral producing mine, so that wording should be understood as part of the project’s promotional description rather than a demonstrated operating result.

What later filings say about the project
Later regulatory disclosures show a different status from the 2022 schedule. A 2026 annual report filed with the SEC describes Snow Lake as a 100%-owned exploration-stage project in northern Manitoba and records a July 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment. The filing characterizes that assessment as preliminary and says the company had stopped directing significant capital to lithium exploration as it shifted focus to other assets. SEC annual report

Company name and ticker change
On March 16, 2026, Snow Lake Resources Ltd. changed its legal name to Frontier Nuclear and Minerals Inc. and changed its Nasdaq ticker from LITM to FNUC, according to the filing covering the six months ended December 31, 2025. The corporate rename is a useful marker when looking for current company disclosures; it does not mean the proposed lithium mine entered production.

The phrase “world’s first electric lithium mine” appeared as a 2022 company ambition in coverage of a planned project. The later filings establish that the project was still exploration-stage in the reported periods, not that it became the first operating mine of its kind. The sources available here do not verify a global first or confirm implementation of the proposed LG and Epiroc roles.

For readers following battery supply chains, the distinction is consequential: an announced mine, a preliminary economic assessment, and a producing mine are different stages. Snow Lake’s 2022 output and vehicle-equivalent figures describe the company’s intended scale, while the later filings report no production.
