Bombardier’s Global 8000 business jet was reported to have received FAA approval for U.S. operations in late December 2025. The same report gives it a maximum speed of Mach 0.95—but that is still below Mach 1, so the aircraft is subsonic, not a return to Concorde-style supersonic passenger flight.
What jet is called the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde?
The claim refers to Bombardier’s Global 8000, a business jet. AirMag.aero reported a maximum speed of Mach 0.95 in its January 26, 2026 update. That is a reported aircraft-speed figure, not evidence that the Global 8000 flies faster than sound.
“Fastest civilian jet since Concorde” is a comparison about speed, not a claim that the Global 8000 duplicates Concorde’s supersonic service. The available sources do not establish a like-for-like ranking against competing business jets across speed, range, passenger capacity, cabin layout, and certification status.
Did the FAA certify the Global 8000?
AirMag.aero reported that Transport Canada certified the aircraft in early November 2025, the FAA approved it for U.S. operations in late December 2025, and EASA approval followed. The report described the EASA approval as completing the multinational certification process and noted the aircraft’s entry into service. This chronology is attributed to that secondary report; it is not an independently verified FAA certificate notice.

Certification claims should be read with their jurisdiction in view: the report describes FAA approval for U.S. operations, alongside approvals from Transport Canada and EASA. These are aircraft-approval developments, not changes to rules for supersonic flight.
Is the Global 8000 supersonic?
No. The reported maximum of Mach 0.95 is below Mach 1. The FAA defines supersonic flight as Mach 1 and above; it gives approximately 770 mph as a general reference for Mach 1. That figure is not a conversion of the Global 8000’s speed. Mach depends on atmospheric conditions, so a Mach value does not translate to one fixed miles-per-hour figure in every circumstance.

Why do some sources list Mach 0.94 instead?
Bombardier’s 2025 corporate report gave a projected top speed of Mach 0.94 and range of 8,000 nautical miles while the aircraft’s development and certification were still in progress. The report described those figures as approximate and subject to operating rules and assumptions. AirMag.aero’s later report gives Mach 0.95 as the maximum speed. These are figures from different sources and stages; the earlier development-stage projection should not be treated as the later reported maximum.

The 8,000-nautical-mile range is likewise a manufacturer-published development-stage figure, not a guarantee of achievable distance on every flight. The cited report does not make it a direct comparison with other aircraft under identical payload, reserve, or operating assumptions.

Separately, the FAA announced proposed noise-based certification standards for supersonic aircraft and proposed operating rules. Its June 30, 2026 announcement said the agency aimed to finalize both rules by mid-2027. They remain proposals in that announcement, not a rule that certified the Global 8000.

The FAA Administrator’s statement that advances in engineering and noise reduction could “eliminate the old sonic boom” addressed the administration’s proposed supersonic policy.
