It is not automatically the better value: compare the exact trims, incentives and equipment you can actually buy, and match the powertrain to how you drive.
Start with the exact models and trims
“Lexus NX vs. Toyota RAV4” is not a single-trim comparison. The 2025 NX is offered in Standard, Premium, Luxury and F SPORT Handling grades, while Toyota lists four grades for the 2025 gas RAV4. The available RAV4 drivetrain—front-wheel drive (FWD), all-wheel drive (AWD) or Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD—depends on grade. Toyota says Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on the 2025 RAV4. Toyota’s 2025 RAV4 model information describes the gas model; do not assume it covers every RAV4 powertrain.
Lexus announced a 2025 NX starting MSRP of $41,765, including delivery, processing and handling. That figure is a starting point, not the price of every NX grade or a direct comparison with a RAV4 trim. Lexus described the 2025 NX changes as minor in its March 20, 2024 release: “For the 2025 model year, the NX line sees minor changes.” Lexus’s announcement also lists the year’s updates.
Before deciding which is the better deal, compare same-year, similarly equipped vehicles using dealer quotes. Include destination charges, available incentives, options and the price you would actually pay. A current third-party comparison page pairs a 2025 NX 250 with a 2026 RAV4, so its displayed figures should not be treated as a matched 2025 comparison. The Cars.com comparison can suggest questions to ask, but not settle the 2025-versus-2025 specifications.

Choose the NX powertrain that fits your driving
The NX lineup spans gas, conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Those versions meet different needs; do not compare them as if they were interchangeable.

The powertrain figures and descriptions above come from Lexus’s 2025 NX announcement. Its captured information does not give an NX 350h combined MPG figure, so no figure is supplied here. Compare fuel economy and electric range for the specific RAV4 trim and powertrain under consideration; the available Toyota information does not establish a complete, matched set of 2025 NX and RAV4 EPA ratings.

When the NX premium may be worth paying
The case for the Lexus is strongest when you value its positioning and equipment enough to pay for the specific NX grade you want. Lexus says 2025 updates include two front-console USB-C ports, auto rain-sensing wipers, a power back door, and standard Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking. Copper Crest exterior color became available, and Macadamia interior became available on Luxury. These are model-year details, not proof that every NX has every appearance option.
Compare the equipment lists for the actual vehicles. A higher NX grade may bring features you want, but a higher trim’s price is not a fair comparison with a lower RAV4 grade unless you account for the equipment difference. Conversely, do not pay for luxury-oriented features that you would rarely use merely to justify the Lexus badge.

When the RAV4 may be the better fit
The RAV4 deserves the lead if you want mainstream SUV utility, more grade choices within the gas lineup, or particular drivetrain configurations that are available on the RAV4 grade you select. Toyota identifies Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 as standard on the 2025 RAV4. Confirm the equipment and drivetrain on the exact vehicle rather than assuming every grade has the same configuration.
There is not enough matched information here to declare which vehicle has more cargo space or passenger room. Third-party cargo figures currently shown alongside a 2025 NX may refer to a 2026 RAV4, so they do not establish a 2025-to-2025 difference. Bring the stroller, luggage, sports gear or other bulky items you routinely carry and test them in both vehicles. Also check the seats and cargo floor in the exact trims you are shopping.

How to weigh the NX warranty
Lexus lists these warranties for the 2025 NX: the 2025 NX brochure states four years/50,000 miles for the limited warranty, six years/70,000 miles for the powertrain, eight years/100,000 miles for the hybrid system and ten years/150,000 miles for the hybrid battery. These are the periods and mileage limits published by Lexus; the brochure should be consulted for coverage terms and exclusions.
Those Lexus terms make warranty coverage a useful point to investigate, particularly for an NX hybrid, but they do not establish that the NX warranty is better than the RAV4’s. A direct warranty verdict requires checking Toyota’s applicable 2025 warranty materials and comparing what each warranty covers, for how long and under what conditions.

Make the decision with a short, trim-specific checklist
- Write down the exact vehicles. Record model year, grade, powertrain, drivetrain and installed options for both quotes.
- Compare real purchase prices. Include delivery charges, incentives and dealer-installed options; do not use the NX starting MSRP as though it were a quote for the grade you want.
- Match powertrain to use. Decide whether you want gas, a conventional hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. For the NX 450h+, consider whether you can charge regularly and whether its estimated electric range suits your normal trips.
- Check practical fit. Load your own gear and try the passenger seating in both vehicles instead of relying on a mixed-model-year cargo comparison.
- Read both warranty documents. Compare coverage for the exact model year and powertrain, including terms and exclusions—not just the headline duration.
If you add an accessory such as an all-weather cargo liner for an NX, Lexus lists an all-weather cargo mat in its 2025 brochure. Confirm fitment for the model year, grade and cargo-floor configuration before buying; the brochure does not verify the fit of any particular third-party product.
