As of 8 October 2026, the terms name 45 jurisdictions as “Prohibited Jurisdictions,” including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Spain, Australia, South Africa, and the Canadian province of Ontario. The global site is operated by Medium Rare N.V., which Stake says holds Curaçao Gaming Authority license OGL/2024/1451/0918. Curaçao itself appears on the same prohibited list.
Stake also runs separate localized services for Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. Those services do not change the status of the global site in those four countries, all of which are on the prohibited list. Whether you can use any Stake service depends on where you are physically located and what your local law says about that product. Confirm it with your local regulator before you register, deposit, or bet.
How current this guide is
The title refers to a 2024 guide. The rules in this article are Stake’s current published terms and licensing statements, as they stood on 8 October 2026. The license reference in Stake’s materials contains “2024,” but that number identifies the license and does not date the access rules. Terms and access lists change, so check the live terms before you act on anything below.
Jurisdictions Stake’s terms prohibit

Three details matter beyond the names themselves.
- The list mixes countries and subnational units. It names the United States and the United Kingdom as whole countries, but from Canada it names only Ontario. Other Canadian provinces are not named.
- The restriction follows the person’s location. Stake says it also applies to residents or citizens of other countries while they are located in a prohibited jurisdiction. A traveler whose passport country is not on the list is still covered while physically inside a listed place.
- Licensing and access are separate. Curaçao, the jurisdiction whose license Stake cites, is on the list. A license issued in a place does not make that place’s residents eligible to play.
What the list is and is not
- It is Stake’s access rule. It tells you where the operator has chosen to exclude users under its terms. It is not an independent legal opinion on any country’s law.
- It is not a complete statement of local law. A country’s gambling laws may restrict online play even where it does not appear on this list, and a country’s rules may differ by product.
- Absence from the list is not permission. Stake says some countries may be listed in its terms or geoblocked, so a country that is not named may still be restricted in practice.
What Stake’s localized services change
Stake’s licensing page lists separate localized operations or authorizations for four markets. Each uses its own domain or service name, and Stake presents each as distinct from the global site. The table shows how each one sits against the global site’s terms.

A local service is a different offering from the global site. Its existence does not remove the global site’s exclusion, and it does not show that every product or domain is permitted. If you are in one of these four countries and considering a local service, compare it against the global site on these points:

- Legal entity and domain
- Regulator and license or authorization
- Whether sports betting, casino, or both are covered
- Local age and eligibility rules
- Current terms and complaint route
What the Curaçao license establishes
Stake’s terms identify Medium Rare N.V., headquartered in Curaçao, as the operator of Stake.com and cite Curaçao Gaming Authority license OGL/2024/1451/0918. These are the operator’s own statements about its corporate structure and licensing. They tell you who runs the site and under which authority it says it operates.
They do not tell you whether a person in another country may lawfully use it. A license is granted under one jurisdiction’s rules, and whether another country allows its residents to play with that operator is a separate question. The clearest evidence is the access list itself, which excludes Curaçao.

What the “169 countries” figure means
Stake’s anti-money-laundering policy says the service currently supports users in more than 169 countries globally. The page as accessed does not state a year, so treat the figure as undated. It is the operator’s own user-reach claim. It is not a count of places where online gambling is legal, and it is not a count of places where Stake holds a local license. A reach figure of that size sits alongside an access list that excludes dozens of jurisdictions, and the two describe different things.
What Stake’s terms require of you
- Age: you must be at least 18, or the higher applicable age of majority or gambling age where you live.
- Location: you must be in a jurisdiction where using the service is legal.
- Responsibility: the terms place the duty of determining legality on you, and they reserve Stake’s right not to accept bets that would be illegal under applicable law.
- Location restrictions: the terms explicitly prohibit attempts to evade location restrictions. This article does not recommend VPNs or similar tools for that purpose.
- Amendments: the terms can be changed, so read the current version before you deposit.
The sentence that places the responsibility is in section 4.5(b) of the Stake.com Terms of Service:

That is Stake’s statement of who carries the risk. It is not a regulator’s conclusion about your country.

How to check your own location
- Confirm your country and, where it matters, your state, province, or territory. The list names Ontario but no other Canadian province, so the exact place can change the answer.
- Compare your location with the prohibited list above. If your country is named, or your Canadian province is Ontario, the global site is excluded under Stake’s terms.
- Check whether Stake’s licensing page names a localized service for your country. If it does, read that service’s own terms, domain, and authorization before using it, because they are separate from the global site.
- Look up the online gambling rules for your jurisdiction with your national, state, or provincial gambling regulator. Check sports betting and casino products separately, since they can be treated differently.
- Re-check Stake’s terms on the day you register, deposit, or bet, because the terms can change.
Decision branches for common situations

Legal status can differ by state, province, territory, product, domain, and date. A general legal book, a payment method, or the fact that a site loads or lets you register will not settle the question for your location.
