Both are reasonable places to start asking for offers, but treat them as leads, not endorsements. Their websites are their own claims, neither one’s current license is confirmed in this guide, and nothing here shows that either pays more than the other. The safest approach is to verify the license for the exact storefront, get offers on the same disclosed karat and weight, and understand the offer math before you sign anything.
Local places to start
The two businesses below are the only Brooklyn gold buyers identified for this guide. The addresses and service descriptions come from each company’s website, so confirm them by phone before you travel.
IN Gold Corp
- Locations listed on its website: 2619 86th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, and 2486 Coney Island Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11223.
- Services it advertises: buying and pawning gold, silver, diamonds, platinum, jewelry, and watches.
- Process it describes: staff weigh and test items in front of the customer. That is a company claim, so ask to watch the weighing and testing yourself.
EZ Pawn Corp
- Location listed on its website: 2641 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11207.
- Services it advertises: buying, selling, and pawning gold, jewelry, watches, and electronics.
- Licensing claim: the website describes it as an NYC-licensed pawnbroker. Confirm that with the city before relying on it (see the steps below).
Neither listing is a ranking. The fastest way to find out which buyer treats you best is to bring the same item to each one and compare the paperwork, not the advertising.
Verify the shop before you visit
- Confirm the license for the exact storefront. Use the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) licensing information for the address you plan to visit, not the company’s homepage alone.
- Check the license type against what you want to do. NYC guidance says a used-goods business generally needs a Secondhand Dealer General license. If the shop also makes pawn loans, it can also need a Pawnbroker license.
- Call the location and ask whether it is operating at that address and whether it buys gold on the day you plan to come in.
- Ask which transaction you are entering: an outright sale or a pawn loan. The two are governed differently and produce different amounts (see the comparison table below).
How to compare offers
An offer only means something when it is based on the same facts. Before accepting any number, get these details in writing.

- Karat assessment: ask the buyer how it determined purity and what karat it assigned to each piece.
- Troy weight: ask for the item’s weight in troy ounces, as measured by the shop. Gold is priced by troy weight, not by the ordinary grams or ounces used on most kitchen scales.
- Stones and non-gold components: ask how diamonds, gemstones, and any silver or platinum affect the figure.
- Fees: ask whether any testing, handling, or processing charges are deducted, and how much.
- Scrap or resale value: for signed, antique, or gemstone pieces, ask whether the offer reflects the metal’s scrap value or the item’s value to a buyer who might resell it. These can differ substantially.
Get at least two offers on the same item. Because the sources reviewed here do not establish current Brooklyn gold prices or typical payout percentages, judge each offer against the others and against the weight and karat shown on the receipt, not against a percentage you have read online.

Rules that protect sellers
Used-goods licensing
NYC’s Secondhand Dealer General guidance says a person or business buying or selling used goods in the city generally needs that license. It lists exceptions, including transactions conducted exclusively online. If a shop cannot show you a current license for the location, do not sell there.

Scales and troy weight
The NYC Inspection Checklist: Secondhand Dealers (DCWP, dated 03/2024) states: “If your business buys gold, silver, jewelry, or other precious metal, your business must have a scale and inform the seller of the troy weight of the precious metal.” The checklist also describes approved scale classes and divisions, including divisions equal to or smaller than .01 troy ounce. This rule governs the dealer’s equipment and disclosure. It does not require you to own a scale, and it does not guarantee the shop’s pricing.
A home jewelry scale can help you estimate weight before you visit, but it cannot establish karat, test the item, or predict what a buyer will offer. Use it only as a rough check against the shop’s stated weight.

Cancellation and conversion rights
New York General Business Law §47 covers specified collateral-loan broker transactions. Its protections, as summarized above, are time-limited and conditional. Read the receipt carefully and ask the pawnbroker to confirm which protections apply to your transaction and on what dates.
Complaints
If a used-goods dealer violates applicable requirements, for example by refusing to provide a receipt or pawn ticket, you can report it through NYC311, which lists used-goods dealer complaint categories and explains how to submit a report. Keep the receipt and every transaction detail, because they are the evidence you will need.

What this guide cannot confirm
- Current license status for either named Brooklyn location. Check DCWP directly.
