Sheffield Wednesday got new owners in May 2026. The English Football League (EFL) announced on 2 May that the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC; the club’s joint administrators, BTG, announced the sale’s successful completion on 5 May.
When did Sheffield Wednesday’s ownership change?
The EFL’s 2 May 2026 announcement said an agreement had been formally concluded and placed Sheffield Wednesday under new ownership. BTG, the joint administrators, confirmed successful completion of the sale on 5 May 2026. Those are the announcement and completion milestones, respectively—not a future expected takeover date.
The EFL identified the buyer as Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL’s statement describes the agreement as a transfer of the club’s assets and says the club was under new ownership. BTG’s 5 May announcement records the successful completion.
How the takeover process unfolded
The sale followed Sheffield Wednesday’s entry into administration and a failed earlier bid. A preferred-bidder selection marked progress in negotiations, but did not itself make the bidder the owner.

What happened to Sheffield Wednesday’s points deductions?
The EFL said the club received an automatic 12-point deduction when it entered administration in October 2025. After the club exited administration, the EFL said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction, exercising discretion under its Insolvency Policy. The league’s May 2026 statement sets out that decision.

The announcements establish that the sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC was completed and identify the consortium’s named members. They do not set out current owner plans or post-sale financing details, so the sale itself does not establish what changes the new ownership will make.
