Korean Air names four travel classes: First Class, Prestige Class, Premium Class, and Economy Class. Premium Class sits between Prestige and Economy. The class name tells you the service level, but not the exact seat. The seat you get depends on the route, the aircraft, and the itinerary on your booking.

The four classes and what Korean Air publishes for each

The table below lists the cabin categories with the seat figures Korean Air published on its official pages and in its August 5, 2025 newsroom release. Each figure applies only to the aircraft named in its row. Publication dates are noted where Korean Air’s pages did not state one.

Class Position in the cabin lineup Seat figures Korean Air publishes (aircraft and source)
First Class Highest service tier A380 Kosmo Suite: 211 cm pitch, 201 cm bed length, 67 cm width, 23-inch monitor (Korean Air A380 page; publication date not stated)
Prestige Class Business-class cabin B737-8: 2-2 layout, 132 cm pitch, 53 cm width (Korean Air B737-8 page; publication date not stated). B747-8I Prestige Suites: independent spaces with direct aisle access and 190 cm (75 inches) of personal space (Korean Air B747-8I page; publication date not stated)
Premium Class Between Prestige and Economy Refitted Boeing 777-300ER: 40 seats in a 2-4-2 layout, 39–41 inch pitch, 19.5 inch width, leg and foot rests at each seat (Korean Air newsroom release, August 5, 2025)
Economy Class Standard cabin category Refitted Boeing 777-300ER New Economy cabin: 3-4-3 layout (Korean Air newsroom release, August 5, 2025). Not stated for other aircraft in this source.

First Class

First Class is Korean Air’s highest service tier. The product it publishes in detail is the Kosmo Suite on the Airbus A380, which has a flat bed and considerably more space than the other cabins. Because the seat is tied to one aircraft type, a First Class fare on a different aircraft may come with a different seat. Treat the A380 figures as the Kosmo Suite’s specification, not as a promise for every First Class seat.

Prestige Class

Prestige is Korean Air’s business-class cabin. Readers often assume it is one product, but the official pages show two different designs. On the Boeing 737-8, Prestige is a 2-2 layout with a narrower seat. On the Boeing 747-8I, Prestige Suites are enclosed-style spaces with direct aisle access, so each passenger can reach the aisle without disturbing a neighbor. Ask which product your flight uses before assuming the Prestige seat on another route will match.

Translation: “Premium Class is conceived as a class between Korean Air’s Prestige Class and Economy Class.”

The release presents Premium as a product announced for refitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, not a cabin installed across the whole fleet.

Economy Class

Economy is Korean Air’s standard cabin category. The 3-4-3 layout in the table is specific to the refitted 777-300ER’s New Economy cabin, as described in the same 2025 announcement. Do not assume that layout on other Economy cabins, including those on older or differently configured aircraft.

Premium Class: what the 2025 rollout does and does not establish

Korean Air’s August 5, 2025 release said the first refitted 777-300ER was planned to enter short- and medium-haul service from mid-September 2025. The release does not establish which routes the aircraft would fly after that, how many aircraft would be refitted, or whether the rollout went to schedule. Confirm current Premium availability on the flight you are considering, because a rollout announced in 2025 may have changed by the time you book.

On pricing, the same release said fares would vary by route and travel period. It gave a typical reference of around 110% of the Economy full fare. That figure is a dated company statement about how Premium was expected to be priced, not a current quote. Use it only to understand the positioning relative to Economy, and check the fare shown in your booking for the actual cost.

Does every Korean Air flight have First Class?

No. Korean Air’s class structure is a set of cabin categories, and not every route or aircraft carries every category. A short route on a smaller aircraft may offer only Economy, while a long-haul route on a larger aircraft may carry Prestige and First. The class name on the booking is only a starting point. Verify it against the flight’s actual cabin.

How to confirm the cabin and seat you are actually booking

  1. Confirm the operating carrier and flight number on your itinerary. If the flight is a codeshare, the operating carrier, not Korean Air, provides the service.
  2. Check the aircraft type shown for each segment. The seat figures in the table depend on the aircraft, so a matching class name on a different aircraft may mean a different product.
  3. Review the seat map for your specific flight before selecting or paying for a seat, and note the pitch, layout and aisle access shown there.
  4. Read the fare conditions for the cabin you are buying, including what the fare allows for seat changes, refunds, and changes to the route.
  5. If you plan to preorder meals, check that your cabin is eligible. Korean Air’s meal-preorder guidance says First, Prestige, and Premium passengers can preorder meals.

Codeshares and service differences

  • Operating carrier: On codeshare flights, the operating airline provides the services. Korean Air’s guidance warns that some ancillary services may not be available on those flights.
  • Airport services in First Class: Korean Air’s service-by-class page lists First, Prestige, Premium, and Economy, and notes that certain First Class airport services have eligibility limitations. Check those limitations against your ticket before counting on them.
  • Eligibility: Benefits tied to a class can depend on ticketing and itinerary, so a class label alone does not guarantee a given benefit.

What to compare when choosing between cabins

When two cabins appear on the same itinerary, compare the following on the actual seat map and fare conditions rather than on class names:

  • Seat space, including pitch and whether the seat lies flat
  • Privacy and direct aisle access
  • Included meal and airport services, and whether meal preorder is available
  • Fare and ticket conditions, such as change and refund rules
  • The aircraft and seat product assigned to your flight

The published figures show the general spread between Economy, Premium, Prestige and First, but they do not give a current price comparison or a complete route-by-route availability table. Those depend on the flight you search.

Sources used: Korean Air’s newsroom release dated August 5, 2025; Korean Air’s official pages for the A380, B737-8, and B747-8I; Korean Air’s meal-preorder guidance; and Korean Air’s service-by-class page. Publication dates for the aircraft pages were not stated on the pages reviewed.
