Not exactly as the headline may suggest. Fightful reported in August 2024 that an earlier Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) offer to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was believed by sources close to the situation to be “at least double” AEW’s previous deal. The report did not disclose a dollar amount, and it cautioned that the compared packages might cover different programming or rights. It did not establish that WBD’s latest offer was double AEW’s then-current deal.
What the August 2024 report said
On August 28, 2024, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that WBD had made AEW a recent long-term television offer after AEW owner Tony Khan met WBD chief executive David Zaslav in Paris. Sources close to the situation said AEW was reviewing the offer; one WBD source characterized it as “extensive.” Fightful also reported optimism about the talks, while noting that process steps remained and no announcement timing was known. Fightful’s report did not define “extensive” or provide the offer’s value or terms.
The “at least double” description referred to an offer made before the most recent one discussed in that story. Fightful attributed the comparison to sources close to AEW and WBD. The distinction matters: the report did not say the newest offer was precisely twice the value of the current deal.
Why “double” does not establish a dollar value
Fightful said there were no public figures for AEW’s previous television deal and that the agreement had evolved over time. It also cautioned that the offer being compared might cover a different amount of programming or include additional elements. Without a disclosed baseline and a like-for-like package, “at least double” is a reported relative comparison—not a verified valuation readers can convert into dollars.

- No disclosed baseline: The public report did not state the value of the previous deal.
- Unclear scope: More programming or additional rights could change the comparison even if the rights fee itself were not simply twice as large.
- No confirmed exact multiple: “At least double” is what sources reportedly believed, not a published contract calculation.
Contemporaneous coverage by Wrestling Inc listed possibilities discussed around the negotiations, including more AEW television hours, reality programming, crossovers, next-day streaming, library rights, Ring of Honor content and a changed pay-per-view strategy. Those were reported possibilities, not confirmed provisions of the offer. Wrestling Inc’s recap therefore helps illustrate why package scope could matter, but it does not verify that any particular item was included.
How to interpret the reported $185 million figure
Yahoo Finance described AEW’s 2024 agreement with WBD as widely reported at about $185 million per year. That is a secondary reported estimate, not an official contract disclosure, and it is not the value of the earlier offer described as “at least double.” Yahoo Finance’s 2026 account does not supply the missing comparable figures needed to calculate what the confidential offer was worth.
Rank #2
It would be misleading to multiply that estimate by two and present the result as the offer’s value: the estimate concerns the 2024 agreement, while Fightful’s comparison involved an earlier offer and an evolving deal whose scope may have differed.

In May 2026, Fightful reported that AEW and WBD refuted claims that WBD had told Khan about a planned sale in summer 2025. The article said AEW’s rights deal with WBD ran through the end of 2027, with an option for 2028. That later report provides contract-term context; it does not establish the exact outcome or valuation of the 2024 offer. Nor does the reported term alone settle future programming decisions.
