How the 86.56% figure is calculated
The pass rate is the number of successful regular candidates divided by the number of regular candidates who appeared. For 2025, 791,088 divided by 913,883 gives 86.56%. The difference between the two counts, 122,795, is the number of regular candidates who appeared but were not recorded as successful.

The 2026 row is included only to stop the 2025 figure being mistaken for the latest result. The year-to-year gap between 86.31% (2024) and 86.56% (2025) is about a quarter of a percentage point. A change that small does not, by itself, show that learning improved or worsened, because the rate also depends on the cohort that sat the examination in a given year.
Regular, continuing and compartmental candidates are counted separately
WBBSE reports results for three groups: regular candidates, continuing candidates and compartmental candidates. The 86.56% headline covers only the regular group. A combined total across all three groups would produce a different rate, and the board’s comparison tables do not present that combined rate as the headline. If you are checking a specific student’s result or comparing schools, confirm which group the number belongs to before drawing a conclusion.

Result-day timeline (2 May 2025)
A board press note, reproduced by Paschimbanga HM News, set out the sequence for result day. These times describe 2025 only and are not a current schedule.
- 9:00 AM: the board announced the result.
- 9:45 AM: online access to results opened through the official result websites.
- 10:00 AM: schools began receiving marksheets and certificates.
Students who wanted their results online needed their examination credentials to view them. Schools collected printed marksheets and certificates through the board’s arrangements, so the printed document a student receives from school is the one to keep for admissions and records. The online result is a provisional display of the marks, not a replacement for the school-issued document.

Review and scrutiny of answer scripts
WBBSE lists post-publication review and scrutiny among its services. Scrutiny is the board’s process for re-checking marks after the result is out. This article does not establish the deadline, fee or filing method for any particular year, and those details change from one examination cycle to the next. For 2025 matters, use the WBBSE notice issued for that year, and check the year printed on the notice before you act on it.
