Perth Airport reported that Virgin Australia, in partnership with Qatar Airways, launched its inaugural Perth–Doha service on 26 June 2025. The available evidence confirms Perth’s participation, but does not establish that WA travellers were among the first to receive the partnership’s benefits.
What the Qatar–Virgin Australia partnership offered
In its 2022 announcement, Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia described a partnership linking Qatar Airways’ international network via Doha with Virgin Australia’s domestic network. The airlines said Qatar Airways passengers would be able to connect on a single booking to 35 Virgin Australia domestic destinations. They also said Virgin Australia customers and Velocity members could access Qatar Airways’ network of more than 140 worldwide destinations through Doha. Those are announcement-era figures, not verified current network totals.
The announcement also described reciprocal opportunities for Velocity and Qatar Airways Privilege Club members to earn and redeem rewards. It set out tier-dependent benefits that could include complimentary lounge access, extra baggage, priority check-in, priority boarding and priority baggage delivery. Eligibility was described as depending on the member’s status tier and the airline flown; the announcement does not establish the terms that apply to a particular booking today.
What it meant for Perth and WA
Perth Airport reported that Virgin Australia, in partnership with Qatar Airways, launched its inaugural Perth–Doha service on 26 June 2025. That establishes a historical launch date and shows Perth’s place in the partnership’s international connectivity story. It does not verify whether the route is operating now, its current frequency, or which connecting itineraries are currently available.

The announcement’s domestic connections and loyalty features could be relevant to WA residents travelling within Australia or onward internationally. But a partnership announcement is not enough to confirm that a specific itinerary can be booked on one ticket, that a particular flight earns points, or that a traveller qualifies for a lounge or priority service.
Why “among first to benefit” is not established
The phrase implies a comparison: that WA travellers received access earlier than travellers elsewhere. The announcement and Perth Airport’s report establish the partnership’s intended benefits and Perth’s service launch, but do not document a rollout order or rank WA against other regions. It is more accurate to say that Perth was included and that the Perth–Doha service was reported as launched on 26 June 2025 than to claim WA travellers were among the first to benefit.

What to check before booking
Because schedules, fares and eligibility can change, compare the actual itinerary and its fare conditions rather than relying on the partnership’s original destination counts. Check the airline’s current booking and loyalty terms for the precise flights you plan to take.
- Itinerary: Confirm the origin and destination, connection points, total journey time and operating carrier for each flight.
- Ticket and baggage: Check whether the flights are on one booking and review the fare’s baggage allowance and change conditions.
- Points and rewards: Verify earning and redemption eligibility for the specific fare and flight, and whether your Velocity or Privilege Club status affects the result.
- Airport benefits: Confirm lounge access, priority services and any extra baggage allowance against your status tier, operating airline and booking.
- Current service: Check live airline information for Perth–Doha availability and schedules; the reported 2025 launch date is not a current timetable.
