The Virgin Australia sale behind the January 2025 headline has ended. It advertised return economy fares from Perth to Barcelona from A$1,798 and to Paris from A$1,833 for selected June–July 2025 travel, connecting through Doha. A separate Virgin Australia sale running 6–30 October 2026 advertises selected 2027 Perth–Barcelona fares from A$1,641 and Perth–Paris fares from A$1,725, also via Doha. These are limited-seat starting prices, not guaranteed fares.
What the January 2025 Perth-to-Europe sale offered
Virgin Australia advertised return economy fares from Perth to Barcelona from A$1,798 and to Paris from A$1,833. The fares were for selected travel dates from 17 June to 11 July 2025 and had to be booked by 31 January 2025. That promotion has expired; its prices and travel dates are historical, not currently bookable. PerthNow’s 24 January 2025 report covered the sale, and an ACCC public-register submission by Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways records the fare examples and travel period.
Doha connection, not a nonstop service
The flights were sold through Virgin Australia’s partnership with Qatar Airways and connected in Doha. Qatar Airways operated the onward flights to Europe. The advertised fares therefore did not represent a nonstop Perth-to-Europe flight, and availability was limited to selected flights and dates. PerthNow and the ACCC-hosted submission describe the offer.
A separate Virgin Australia sale is running in October 2026
Virgin Australia’s later offer is a distinct sale with different prices, booking dates and eligible travel. As of 8 October 2026, its sale window is 6–30 October 2026, unless fares sell out earlier. The airline advertises return Economy Choice fares on Qatar Airways-operated flights via Doha. The published Perth starting fares are:

These are Virgin Australia’s “from” prices for limited seats, not a quote for every date or itinerary. Taxes, charges and currency can affect the displayed amount, and seats may not be available at peak times or on all flights. Eligible dates and blackout periods vary by route. The sale also includes selected European destinations such as Amsterdam, Athens, Dublin, Rome, London Heathrow and Manchester. Check Virgin Australia’s sale information and offer terms for route-specific conditions and live availability.
How to compare the fare with the cost of your trip
A headline “from” price is a starting point, not necessarily the amount you will pay for the itinerary you want. Before treating a fare as a saving, compare the same route and travel dates and check the full conditions shown at booking.

- Total return price: Check the final amount, including applicable taxes and charges, rather than comparing only the advertised starting fare.
- Dates and availability: Confirm that your preferred outbound and return dates qualify. Limited seats and blackout dates can make a starting fare unavailable for your itinerary.
- Fare family and operating airline: The current offer is Economy Choice on Qatar Airways-operated flights. Review the applicable partner-airline conditions rather than assuming every Virgin Australia fare rule applies.
- Baggage and changes: Check baggage inclusion and the change and cancellation conditions attached to the specific fare. These can differ by partner airline.
- Connection: Allow for the Doha transfer when comparing journey times and plans. The advertised route is not nonstop.
The 2025 and 2026 sale fares are not a like-for-like price comparison: they apply to different travel periods and fare terms. The current sale announcement and terms are at Virgin Australia and its offer conditions.

In its 2025 ACCC submission, Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways cited Direct Data Solutions figures showing Australia–EMEA long-haul ticket sales for June–December 2025 were 12% higher by 31 December 2024 than comparable bookings sold by 31 December 2023. That is a market-wide comparison reported by the airlines; it does not establish that the Perth sale caused the increase. The ACCC public-register submission identifies the statistic and its attribution.
