On 6 August 2026 the club announced that it and the Brazilian had agreed an extension of his contract through 30 June 2032. The headline’s claim that he won’t renew is out of date. The €1 billion Saudi figure comes from earlier reporting and has not been shown to be a current formal offer.
What Real Madrid announced
The club’s official announcement, dated 6 August 2026, says: “Real Madrid C. F. and Vinicius Jr. have agreed on the extension of our player’s contract, which links him to the club until June 30, 2032.” The English version of the club’s page notes that its translation was generated by AI and may contain inaccuracies. If you need the exact wording, quote the Spanish original.
The announcement covers the end date and nothing else. It does not mention Saudi Arabia, a bid, compensation, wages, bonuses, or a release clause. Any salary or fee figure you see online for this renewal is therefore unconfirmed by the club. Corroborating coverage from August 2026, including The Guardian and Europa Press, reported the same renewal. The club’s statement remains the primary source. No direct comment from Vinícius on the extension appears in the club’s announcement or in the earlier reports discussed here.
Where the €1bn figure comes from
The billion-euro number predates the renewal and comes from two separate lines of reporting that should not be merged.

What a release clause is, and is not
A release clause is a price written into a player’s contract at which another club can trigger a transfer without first negotiating with the selling club. It sets the minimum a buyer must pay to bypass the club. It is not an offer, and it does not mean any club has made one. Reported interest and a headline number are different things from a bid the club has received, and a bid the club has received is different from one it has accepted.

- Find the club statement first. Official announcements settle contract dates and whether a deal exists.
- Check the date. A 2024 or 2025 report can describe interest that has since been resolved.
- Classify the number. Ask whether it is a release clause, a reported offer, a reported wage, or a rumoured fee. Each means something different.
- Check for a named, dated source. Anonymous claims about salaries or motives should be treated as unverified.
- Look for disclosed financial terms. If the club did not publish them, no article can confirm them.
Applied to this story, the renewal is confirmed by the club, the €1 billion figure is a clause and a reported interest level from earlier coverage, and the wage and fee details remain unknown.
