In the U.S., Samsung’s trade-in program may accept qualifying smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, PCs, and earbuds, including some products made by other brands. But a device’s category or brand does not guarantee eligibility: Samsung determines which exact models qualify and what offer applies when you select a new qualifying product. Check the current offer on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung App before making a decision.
Which devices can you trade in?
Samsung lists smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, PCs, and earbuds among the categories it may accept, and says it accepts a wide variety of non-Samsung products. The eligible models and offer depend on the transaction, so there is no reliable universal list of every device that qualifies. Samsung’s FAQ addresses the question, “What devices can I currently trade in?” by directing customers to check the current offer.
To check your device, choose the new qualifying Samsung product you plan to buy and look up the exact model of the device you want to trade in within Samsung’s current trade-in flow. The offer shown there—not a broad category label or an older promotion—determines whether that model qualifies and the value attached to it. Both eligibility and value can change with the offer and purchase timing.
What condition does a device need to be in?
Samsung’s U.S. program terms set out general requirements for trade-in devices. Review the terms shown for your specific order; the requirements can depend on the device type and offer.

- The device must power on, hold a charge, and not power off unexpectedly.
- The display must work and have no black spots or pixilation.
- Unless an explicitly offered cracked-device option applies, the device must have no breaks or cracks and no defects beyond normal wear and tear. Samsung lists multiple scratches, dents or dings, water damage, and corroded charging-port, SIM, or battery-terminal contacts as examples of disqualifying damage.
- The device must not appear on a banned list, such as a shared database of devices reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud.
- The battery must not be damaged or swollen.
- You must own the device; leased devices are ineligible.
- Reactivate Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection, and other anti-theft locks must be disabled.
- The device must be factory-reset, with your personal information removed before shipment.
- It must have an FCC ID showing U.S. certification, a functioning charging port that supports charging and data transfer, and original manufacturer components and identifiers.
- If the device was supplied with an S Pen, the S Pen must be included and fully functional.
For headphones, Samsung specifies that both sides must clearly register audio. Apply the program’s device-specific terms rather than assuming every general requirement applies identically to every category.
Can you trade in a cracked or damaged device?
Not automatically. Samsung may offer to accept cracked glass on certain models at its discretion. The offer must explicitly show a value for the selected model as a cracked device. If you select that offer, the cracked-glass requirement is waived, but all other eligibility requirements still apply. Check the offer for the exact model and purchase in progress; an older or separate promotion does not establish eligibility for a current order.

What happens after you send the device?
Samsung evaluates the device after it receives it. Under Samsung’s FAQ, a device that is not an eligible model or does not meet the requirements may be valued at $0. The FAQ says you have seven days to request the device’s return through My Orders. Samsung’s terms also reserve the right to remotely disable the new Samsung product if the trade-in is not received or does not meet the requirements or match its description. Review the terms presented with your order so you understand the consequences and return process that apply.
How does the standalone Samsung phone trade-in differ?
Samsung also describes a separate option for trading in a used Samsung smartphone without buying a new Samsung mobile device. That option is operated independently by Likewize, and the value is based on the phone’s model and condition. Do not assume it uses the same eligible models, conditions, or terms as purchase-linked trade-in; those details are not established by Samsung’s description of the option.

- Identify the exact model and assess its condition, including any damage or missing included accessories such as an S Pen.
- In Samsung’s current trade-in flow, check whether that model qualifies for the new Samsung product you are considering and note the displayed value.
- If the device has cracked glass, confirm that the offer explicitly identifies the value as applying to a cracked device.
- Decide whether purchase-linked credit suits your plans or whether you want to investigate the distinct standalone option for used Samsung smartphones.
