Is the United Polaris Lounge at O’Hare closed?
No. United announced that the renovated lounge reopened on April 29, 2025. The announcement does not establish when construction began or the date the lounge first closed, so an exact closure timeline is not available from the sources cited here. United’s reopening announcement
What changed in the expansion?
United reported that the lounge now covers nearly 25,000 square feet, 50% more space than before. The airline also reported more than 350 seats and a dining room with 50 seats. These are figures from United, not independent measurements. United’s reopening announcement
- A second bar and six additional restrooms.
- Private spaces intended for work or relaxation.
- A larger dining room, with à la carte service, a hot buffet, and snacks at both bars described in United’s opening announcement.
- Chicago-inspired artwork and dinnerware, and décor selected with Crate & Barrel.

Where is the lounge, and when is it open?
The lounge is in Terminal 1 near gate C18. United’s published hours are daily, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central Time. O’Hare’s directory also lists the Polaris Lounge at Terminal 1, gate C18. Who can use the Polaris Lounge?
United describes Polaris Lounge access for eligible international customers traveling in United Polaris and premium Star Alliance cabins. The airport directory characterizes access as “International first and business only.” Eligibility can depend on the itinerary and current airline rules, so verify that your specific ticket qualifies before making plans around a lounge visit. What lounge can you use at O’Hare instead?
O’Hare lists United Clubs at Terminal 1 gates B6, B18, and C10, and Terminal 2 gates E7 and F9. The airport directory also lists other airline and contract lounges in Terminals 3 and 5. These are places to check, not guaranteed replacements for the Polaris Lounge: eligibility, location, and hours differ, and the directory’s general mention of day passes for most clubs does not mean every lounge sells passes or that every traveler qualifies.
