Bloomberg B-PIPE is an institutional market-data feed that delivers Bloomberg data to a firm’s applications and users—not a desktop terminal or a synonym for every Bloomberg API. Bloomberg describes both cloud and on-premises delivery. Before adopting it, firms need to establish which data and venues they need, how they will connect and distribute the feed, and what their agreement permits.
What Bloomberg B-PIPE is—and what it is not
B-PIPE is Bloomberg’s consolidated, normalized market-data feed for enterprise use. It is intended to supply data to front-office applications, third-party systems, a firm’s internal systems, and non-display applications. Bloomberg describes real-time data and streaming delayed data; the available public descriptions do not establish a universal content entitlement or configuration for every customer.
It is best understood as a data service within an institutional market-data architecture, not as an end-user terminal or a general-purpose public API. Bloomberg’s 2019 fact sheet says the feed covers the same asset classes as Bloomberg Terminal and can be distributed to users and applications across an enterprise. That describes asset-class breadth, not identical product features, rights, or entitlements.
Bloomberg’s current Professional Services product page, accessed in 2026, reports coverage of 35 million financial instruments, data from more than 330 exchanges, and more than 5,000 information providers. These are Bloomberg-published figures, not an independent audit, and the counts can change.

How B-PIPE fits into a firm’s data architecture
A firm can use the feed as a common source for market data consumed by trading, pricing, risk, and other internal workflows. Bloomberg markets consistency and enterprise access as benefits; the public materials cited here do not provide independent performance measurements or guarantee that every deployment will behave identically.
Bloomberg’s product catalog distinguishes Enterprise Data Catalog products, including Real Time Data Feed, from Data Connectivity products such as Cloud Access and Server API. In practical terms, choosing the content or feed is not the same decision as choosing the connectivity product, software interface, distribution model, or entitlement setup.

The 2016 guide also refers to EMRS, an entitlements management and reporting system, and BAMS, a monitoring and capacity-planning and alerting system. These are terms used in those historical package descriptions; confirm whether they apply to the current proposed service.

Market prices and Bloomberg-derived content
Bloomberg’s 2019 fact sheet gives examples of Bloomberg-specific content, including Bloomberg VWAP, Bloomberg Generic Price (BGN), and Bloomberg Composite Rate (CMP). It describes BGN as a market-consensus price for corporate and government bonds based on prices contributed directly to Bloomberg. CMP is described as a “best market” calculation of bank bid/ask indications, with CMPT for Tokyo, CMPL for London, and CMPN for New York. These are examples, not a complete content catalog or a promise that a particular item is included in a customer’s subscription.

MiFID II transparency data
Bloomberg’s MiFID II fact sheet describes aggregated, normalized pre- and post-trade transparency data from Approved Publication Arrangements (APAs), multilateral trading facilities (MTFs), and other venues. It outlines two delivery patterns:
- Subscription: receive data for a defined set of securities, with venues supported as additional B-PIPE pricing sources.
- Broadcast: receive all trades and quotes for RTS2 instruments on a given venue.
The fact sheet contains historical venue and status notes and directs readers to an account manager for status updates. Its venue information should not be treated as a current, complete availability list.

B-PIPE, Server API, and BLPAPI are not interchangeable terms
B-PIPE refers to the enterprise feed. Server API is a separately described product, and BLPAPI is not a substitute name for B-PIPE. The 2016 Open API guide discusses distinct controls and distribution conditions for Server API. It says Server API data must be controlled and disseminated to valid Bloomberg Anywhere users, cannot be distributed beyond the application and that user community, and cannot be used to update downstream enterprise systems or databases.
Those statements are specific to Server API in that historical guide. They should not be applied automatically to B-PIPE or treated as current legal advice. For any intended use, confirm the applicable product agreement, exchange entitlements, and current Bloomberg documentation—especially for internal applications, non-display use, downstream systems, and redistribution.
Questions to resolve before adoption
Public descriptions establish some delivery and content options, but do not determine customer-specific rights, service levels, capacity, or price. Get written, current answers from Bloomberg for the proposed use.
- Product and scope: What is the current package name, and which instruments, asset classes, exchanges, and content items are included?
- Rights: What do the agreement and exchange entitlements allow for named users, internal applications, non-display use, downstream storage, and redistribution?
- Connectivity and hosting: Which cloud regions and network paths are supported for this configuration? What are the implementation and infrastructure requirements?
- Service expectations: What latency and resiliency commitments, monitoring, capacity limits, and support model apply? Request the applicable SLA rather than assuming one.
- Technical compatibility: Which current APIs, software versions, and integration patterns are supported?
- Total cost: Request itemized pricing, including licensing, exchange fees, infrastructure, and operational costs. The public sources cited here do not establish a universal price.
What the public evidence does—and does not—establish
Bloomberg’s product pages and fact sheets describe a broad enterprise feed, cloud and on-premises delivery, and examples of market and transparency data. They are vendor materials; the reviewed sources do not include an independently authored performance study, regulator finding, or third-party measured benchmark for B-PIPE. Bloomberg’s coverage figures and stated benefits should therefore be understood as vendor claims, while customer-specific technical, legal, and commercial terms should be established directly in current documentation and a written proposal.
