What the 2.95 million-tonne figure measures
The figure refers to Ukrainian agricultural maritime exports during the first 15 days of March 2024. Reuters reported it on 27 March 2024, attributing the data to Ukraine’s agriculture ministry. It should be read narrowly: agricultural exports shipped by maritime route over a half-month period. It is not a measure of all Ukrainian exports, all grain exports, all agricultural exports by every transport mode, or all cargo handled by ports.
Why other export figures are not direct comparisons
Several later figures help explain Ukraine’s export routes, but they measure different things. Check the period, product scope, route, and whether the figure is export volume, port throughput, or a share before comparing them.

What the headline does—and does not—tell you
- It establishes a reported shipment volume: 2.95 million tonnes of agricultural maritime exports in the first half of March 2024.
- It identifies corn as the leading commodity: the report says corn dominated, without providing a tonnage or percentage split.
- It does not establish a trend: the report does not provide a comparable same-period figure for another year, so it cannot support a year-over-year increase or decrease.
- It does not give export value: the 2.95 million-tonne figure is a volume, not a dollar amount or measure of revenue.
The published report attributes the figure to ministry data; the precise underlying ministry dashboard or release is not identified there. Treat the exact product scope and commodity mix as unspecified rather than assuming the total includes only grain or particular crops.
