The result followed the written examination held in September 2023 and Personality Test interviews conducted from January through April 2024. The merit list recommends candidates for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services Group A and Group B.

What the initial result announced

The initial 16 April 2024 announcement recommended 1,016 candidates. It reported 1,143 vacancies, including 37 vacancies for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD); these are separate figures, not a claim that 1,143 candidates were recommended.

UPSC’s 16 April 2024 release

Recommendation is not itself a guarantee of appointment: the PIB-published announcement says appointments are made according to vacancies and the examination rules. The initial release also states that marks would be available on the UPSC website within 15 days of result declaration.

Later reserve-list recommendation

The 240-person reserve list was a separate list maintained under Rules 20(4) and 20(5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules, 2023. On 25 October 2024, UPSC announced that, at the Department of Personnel and Training’s request, it had recommended 120 candidates from that list to fill remaining posts.

Where to check the UPSC CSE 2023 marksheet

UPSC publishes marksheets separately from the final result PDF. Visit the official UPSC marksheet archive and select the relevant examination and candidate category. The archive lists 2023 entries for Civil Services Preliminary and Civil Services Main candidates who qualified and did not qualify in the written examination. It shows an upload date of 19 April 2024 and an availability-until date of 19 May 2029 for those entries.
