Its acquisition ended public trading in the company’s common stock; this is not simply a Robinhood search glitch.
What happened to Twitter stock?
Twitter’s acquisition closed on October 27, 2022. The company became a wholly owned subsidiary, and its common stock ceased to be publicly traded. On October 28, Twitter notified the New York Stock Exchange that the merger had closed and requested that the exchange delist its common stock. Twitter’s closing Form 8-K describes the completed merger and delisting request.
Before the transaction closed, Twitter’s proxy statement explained that the merger would make the company private, delist and deregister its common stock, and end its periodic reporting to the SEC. The proxy statement set out those expected consequences.
What happened to existing Twitter shares?
Under the merger terms, eligible outstanding shares were canceled and converted into the right to receive the merger consideration. The agreed consideration was $54.20 in cash per eligible share. That figure is a historical transaction term—not a current market price or an offer for new investors. The closing filing describes the share conversion, and Twitter’s April 2022 transaction announcement filed with the SEC states the cash-per-share terms and an approximately $44 billion transaction value.

Does Robinhood’s delisted-stock policy mean Twitter can still be bought there?
No. Robinhood says it offers trading in listed equities and that, when a stock is delisted to the over-the-counter market, trading in that symbol may be restricted to closing existing positions. Robinhood’s delisted-stock policy describes that treatment for certain delisted stocks. Twitter’s case went further: the merger closed, eligible shares were converted into merger consideration, and the former common stock stopped trading publicly. The policy is not evidence that Twitter remains available to buy OTC.

No public-market replacement ticker for the former Twitter common stock is established by the acquisition filings. Twitter became privately held after the merger; the X name does not mean that the former public shares are still listed under a new ticker. A later SEC filing also describes the acquisition as a completed take-private transaction and the common stock as delisted: Twitter’s 2022 annual report filing.
