Elephant VC led the round, with QuantumLight participating. Sipay is often compared with Stripe because it offers payment and financial services, but “Stripe for emerging markets” is a positioning line—not evidence that the two companies have identical products or coverage.
What happened in Sipay’s $78 million funding round?
Sipay announced the Series B on April 8, 2025. Elephant VC led the investment, and QuantumLight, founded by Revolut co-founder Nik Storonsky, also participated, according to TechCrunch and Sipay’s announcement.
Reported valuation figures vary by source. Sipay and TechCrunch put it at $875 million or more; the Investment and Finance Office of Türkiye reported $877 million. These are attributed reported figures, not a single consistently stated valuation.
What does Sipay do?
Sipay is a Turkish payments and embedded-finance platform with services aimed at both businesses and consumers. The Investment and Finance Office of Türkiye describes its business offering as one-stop payment acceptance for customers including companies, banks, industrial enterprises, and technology firms. TechCrunch also describes a consumer-facing app with digital wallets, investments, and loyalty schemes, as well as embedded finance and foreign-exchange transactions.

TechCrunch reported that Sipay bills itself as “Stripe for emerging markets.” The comparison conveys the company’s market positioning; it does not establish that Sipay matches Stripe feature for feature, operates in the same countries, or has the same business model. The available accounts do not provide a complete comparison of supported payment methods, licensing, pricing, settlement terms, or geographic availability.
Where does Sipay plan to expand?
Sipay said the Series B proceeds would support international expansion, partnerships, and a larger presence in emerging markets. In a May 2025 interview, the Investment and Finance Office of Türkiye identified MENA, CIS countries, and Africa as planned expansion regions, with proposed operating centers in the UAE, Azerbaijan, and South Africa, respectively.

Those locations were described as plans, not confirmed launches. The available reporting does not establish that Sipay has since opened those centers or begun operating in each target market. TechCrunch also reported that remittances were among the services Sipay planned to add; that should be understood as a planned addition, not confirmation of a current remittance service.

The Investment and Finance Office account also quotes founder and Global CEO Nezih Sipahioğlu saying the investment would help build partnerships and networks in emerging markets. That statement describes the company’s intended use of the funding, not proof that the expansion has been completed.

For businesses, the raise signals Sipay’s intention to take its payment-acceptance and embedded-finance offering beyond Turkey. For consumers, the company’s described wallet and app services form part of that broader platform. Whether a particular service is available depends on the market; the expansion announcement alone does not confirm local availability, licensing, payment methods, or launch dates.
