What Trader Joe’s says about the strip and rib eye
New York strip
Trader Joe’s product page describes its regular New York strip as Angus beef. It says the cattle are pasture-raised on an all-vegetarian diet and finished on corn for at least 150 days. These are the retailer’s product descriptions, not independent verification of sourcing.

- ORGANIC, GRASS-FED, REGENERATIVE: Our ground beef is USDA Organic, 100% grass-fed & finished, supports regenerative farms, verified by Land to Market,100% pasture-raised, free range, humanely raised, with no feedlots EVER. Non-GMO and never contains antibiotics or added growth hormones. Always fresh, never frozen.
- GRASS FED MEAT: Organic and 100% grass-fed, Verde beef is leaner, lower in calories, and higher in Omega-3s and essential nutrients than grain-fed beef. We believe that better for them, means better for our planet, and better for you.
- DELICIOUS 6 OZ FILET MIGNON TENDERLOIN: That first bite of filet mignon grass fed steak. It’s soft, like butter. It feels like a celebration, no matter what day it is. And this cut of beef lives up to its name. It’s the most tender steak available.
- EASY TO COOK AND SERVE: Cook filet mignon with any dry heat cooking method. Coat the tenderloin steak in a mixture of olive oil, mustard, garlic, fresh rosemary, and pepper. Roast in the oven and serve with root vegetables, grill and pair with a delicious beverage, or pan sear and top with chipotle butter and sautéed red peppers.
- BEEF FROM A BETTER PLACE: We believe that beef can be better. That cattle can graze on open pastures, as nature intended; that farming practices can make the land better, not worse; and that our meals can taste good—and feel good too. That’s what we strive to bring to your table, every single day.
Bone-in rib eye
The regular rib eye listing also describes Angus beef and the same pasture-raised, all-vegetarian diet and corn-finishing approach. The featured rib eye in the catalog is bone-in.
Don’t confuse regular cuts with organic grass-fed products
Trader Joe’s lists organic grass-fed boneless products separately. They are not the same listings as the regular New York strip and bone-in rib eye above. The separate organic grass-fed strip page suggests a simple sear, but that cooking description applies to that product.

Are these new steaks, and will every store have them?
The current catalog establishes that these three cuts appear in Trader Joe’s online listings; it does not say when they were first introduced. A current listing alone cannot verify the “will now sell” timing. Trader Joe’s also notes that not every product appears on its website and directs customers to their neighborhood store for product information, so local availability and price should be confirmed directly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose among the cuts
The listings support a comparison of cut, listed form, and displayed price, but they do not provide a controlled taste or tenderness comparison. They also do not establish which cut is the best value or highest quality. Choose based on the cut you want and the price and availability at your store rather than treating the prices as a quality ranking.

Trader Joe’s product-page copy for the strip and rib eye asks, “Who needs a romantic reservation at a fancy steakhouse when you can bring the steakhouse experience home, for a fraction of the price?” That is retailer promotional language, not an independently demonstrated price comparison.
