The highest reported price in this snapshot is $12.932 million for a one-of-one Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant card sold at Heritage Auctions in August 2025. A 1952 Mickey Mantle auction card brought $12.6 million, while a Shohei Ohtani card was reported sold privately for $11 million in July 2026. The ranking below mixes public auctions with reported private deals, so it is a dated guide to notable transactions—not a definitive, independently audited registry.
Top 10 reported sports-card sales
Prices and sale details are shown as reported by the cited sources. Private sales do not offer the same public transaction evidence as auction results, and the compiled lower-ranked entries have not all been independently confirmed from original sale records. Buyer’s premium is included only where the source specifies it.

| 10 | 2013 Bowman Chrome Aaron Judge | BGS 9.5 | $5,200,000 listed as a Fanatics Collect sale in March 2026 by the compiled sales table. The apparent tie at the reported precision means position and inclusion can vary with records. Compiled sales table |
How to read the ranking
It mixes auctions and reported private deals
A public auction gives a visible venue and result; a private deal may be reported without equivalent transaction documentation. The list includes both because the title asks about reported sales, but they should not be treated as equally verifiable. Guinness identifies the $7.25 million Wagner transaction as private and cautions that its record pages may lag. Guinness World Records
Published rankings can use different rules
Results shift depending on whether a list includes private deals, counts repeat sales of different copies, limits itself to auctions, or reports a buyer’s-premium-inclusive amount. The AP, for example, specified that the $1,110,000 price for Paul Skenes’s one-of-one debut patch card in 2025 included a 20% buyer’s premium; that sale is not in this top ten. Associated Press

Reported precision is not the same as an exact tie-break
The two $5.2 million entries are tied at the precision given in the compiled table. The available information does not establish a more exact ordering, so tenth place is not a definitive boundary.
What the headline records do—and do not—show
The Jordan/Kobe card leads the supported auction results
Heritage reported the one-of-one Dual Logoman’s $12.932 million August 2025 auction result as a sports-card auction record. Heritage director of sports auctions Chris Ivy said the price reflected both the card’s standing as a premier modern basketball card and the auction house’s platform. Heritage Auctions

Mantle and Wagner records depend on the transaction and copy
The $12.6 million Mantle is a distinct 2022 auction result, not the current auction leader in the transactions listed here. Later grade-specific records are much lower: Heritage reported a 1952 Topps Mantle graded PSA 8 sold for $3.721 million in 2026, a record for that grade. Heritage also reported a T206 Piedmont Wagner graded SGC Authentic sold for $5.856 million in 2026, a record for a Wagner with that designation. Those are records within a grade category, not all-time price records. Heritage Auctions
Condition labels are important context, not a universal scale
Grades from PSA, SGC, BGS and CGC are not interchangeable numbers. A card marked authentic or restored also differs materially from an unqualified numerical grade. In August 2026, a restored “Die-Cut Wagner” graded CGC Authentic–Restored sold for $1,337,263. Certified Collectibles Group described it as the highest amount paid for a CGC-certified sports card at that time—a category-specific distinction, not an all-company record. The company estimates that fewer than 100 examples of this card are known today and a little more than 50 have been certified across grading services; these are estimates, not settled census figures. A notable sale just outside the top ten
In February 2026, MLB reported a T206 Wagner graded PSA PR-FR 1 sold for $5.124 million, describing it as a record for a PSA 1. It falls below the two reported $5.2 million entries above. A lower list may place a different Wagner sale here depending on how it handles copies and transactions. MLB.com
Why a card can command a record price
Fame matters, but it does not explain a price on its own. These transactions involve different eras and kinds of scarcity: modern one-of-one relics and autographs, early tobacco-era cards with very few authenticated examples, and iconic vintage issues in exceptional grades. A buyer’s decision can also turn on condition, restoration, provenance, grading designation and the setting in which the card is sold. The examples above show why a headline price cannot be read as a general measure of what a player’s cards—or sports cards as a whole—are worth.
