The club’s public caption confirms the audience and occasion, but it does not provide a transcript of what Wagner said. That means the post alone cannot substantiate specific promises or explain the “exciting” description in the headline.
What the New Year post confirms
The official post was captioned “Tom Wagner’s message to all Bluenoses heading into 2026.” That is the clearest confirmed description of the item: it was presented by Birmingham City as a message from its chairman to supporters as they approached the new year. The wording is a club-authored caption, not a direct quotation from Wagner. Birmingham City FC’s post
What it does not establish
The accessible post does not include a transcript of the video’s spoken content. Without that transcript, it is not possible to verify what Wagner said, whether he announced a specific initiative, or what in the message warrants calling it “exciting.” Comments from supporters do not independently confirm the video’s contents.
What the club said later about Wagner and its plans
February 2026: recovery statement
In February 2026, Birmingham City said Wagner had suffered a stroke, received immediate treatment and was making a good recovery. The club also said, through board representative Jeremy Dale, that “our plans and operations continue as normal under strong leadership.” That was a statement from Dale on behalf of the board, not part of Wagner’s New Year message. July 2026: update from Knighthead
In an update dated July 30, 2026, the club said Wagner was continuing to make progress in his recovery, would miss the following day’s match, and remained confident in the club’s leadership and Knighthead’s long-term strategy. The same update described intentions concerning the football operation, fan experience, club infrastructure and the Sports Quarter, including the future Powerhouse Stadium. These are later statements about the club’s plans, not evidence of what Wagner said in the New Year video or that the projects have been completed. Birmingham City’s July update

In its 2024/25 annual review, Birmingham City described ambitions that included academy development, community activity, the Sports Quarter and becoming a destination club. That provides context for the club’s longer-term direction, but a stated ambition is not proof of delivery and should not be read as a transcript of Wagner’s 2026 message.
