The good news came with limits: the club remained subject to a two-season budget restriction, and signings had to follow a business plan agreed with the EFL.
What was the takeover update?
On 2 May 2026, the English Football League (EFL) said the administrators, Begbies Traynor Group (BTG), had concluded an agreement to transfer Sheffield Wednesday’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC. The consortium was led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL said the club had met the relevant league requirements and was no longer in administration. BTG announced that the transaction was complete on 5 May. It said the club would start the upcoming season on zero points and that wage and transfer parameters had been agreed. BTG completion announcement, 5 May 2026
The verified update is the May transaction; it should not be mistaken for a separate October announcement. The available statements establish a completed transfer and improved operating certainty, not that every employment, wage or sporting issue was resolved.

What changed for the club?
- Administration: the club exited administration after meeting EFL requirements.
- Points: the EFL Board decided not to impose the potential 15-point deduction associated with the administration exit.
- Ownership: the club’s assets transferred to Arise Capital Partners LLC, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, as reported by BBC Sport on 2 May 2026.
- Planning: BTG said wage and transfer parameters had been agreed.
Can Sheffield Wednesday still sign players?
Yes. The takeover did not impose a blanket ban on signings, but recruitment remained controlled. The EFL said the club was subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons and could sign players only in line with a business plan agreed by the new owners and the league. The agreed parameters give the club a framework for planning; they do not mean it can spend without restriction. EFL statement

Exiting administration and avoiding the additional points deduction removed two immediate sources of uncertainty. Agreed wage and transfer parameters also give players and employees a clearer basis for understanding the club’s operating plans, while allowing squad recruitment within the EFL-approved budget framework.
The EFL’s chief executive, Trevor Birch, described the administration period as “an extremely testing time for the Club, and all associated with Sheffield Wednesday, particularly the players, coaching staff, club employees and supporters.” That was the EFL’s characterization of the period before the transaction. The available announcements do not quantify effects on staff morale, job retention or player outcomes.
What remains unresolved or restricted?
- The two-season budget restriction remained in force.
- Player signings had to comply with the business plan agreed with the EFL.
- Agreed wage and transfer parameters do not establish that every individual contract or employment concern was settled.
BTG said Wednesday would begin the upcoming season on zero points. This refers to the club’s starting points total as described in its 5 May completion announcement, following the EFL’s decision not to apply the potential 15-point deduction.
