Omeda Studios announced a $2.2 million seed round on March 10, 2021, to fund development of Predecessor. GFR Fund led the round. The announcement was about a new game built with assets from Epic Games’ cancelled Paragon—not a return of Epic’s original game.
How much did Omeda raise, and who invested?
Omeda Studios announced a $2.2 million seed round on March 10, 2021. GFR Fund led the investment. Omeda also named Inventure, Progression Fund, 1Up Ventures, Aream & Co., Ride Ventures, and gaming angels Chris Lee, Jas Purewal, and Rupert Loman as participants. Omeda’s announcement said the money would support more heroes and skins, along with development of the Predecessor universe.
GFR Fund Managing Partner Teppei Tsutsui described the deal as the fund’s first time leading a seed round in a game studio, adding that it reflected its belief in Omeda and Predecessor. This was a company funding announcement, not a report of revenue, a valuation, or money raised by Epic Games.
How does the 2021 seed round differ from Omeda’s later funding?
The $2.2 million seed round was not Omeda’s only reported financing. Unreal Engine’s September 7, 2022 interview with Omeda founder and CEO Robbie Singh described a separate Series A of more than $20 million, announced in June 2022. The interview says seed funding helped the team shift from spare-time work to full-time development and add talent; the two rounds should not be combined as one raise.

| Funding event | Date announced | Reported amount and type | Development context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seed round | March 10, 2021 | $2.2 million | Omeda said it would support more Predecessor content and development of the game’s universe. |
| Series A | June 2022 | More than $20 million | A separate later financing round; the Unreal Engine interview discusses it in the context of Omeda’s development growth. |
Omeda also announced that it received an Epic MegaGrant on December 23, 2021. That grant was distinct from both investment rounds. Omeda’s MegaGrant announcement confirms the award.
Is Predecessor a remake of Paragon?
No. Epic cancelled Paragon in 2018 and made its assets available for free use through the Unreal Engine ecosystem. Omeda used those assets to build Predecessor, which includes familiar characters, but Singh said the project was inspired by Paragon rather than a remake and was intended to have its own direction. In the Unreal Engine interview, Singh put it this way: “I wouldn’t say we’re ‘remaking’ Paragon but we’re definitely inspired by it, as we are with other games.”
That distinction matters when describing the deal: Omeda raised money to develop its own game using released assets, not to revive Epic’s cancelled title. Unreal Engine described the Paragon assets as having an estimated value of $17 million; that figure is an estimate of the assets, not Omeda’s financing or the value of Predecessor.

The available status milestones are dated, so they should not be read as current audience or availability figures. On July 21, 2025, Xbox Wire reported that Predecessor had more than 2 million players across platforms. On July 22, 2025, the Epic Games Store described the game as free to play and reported that update 1.7 brought the Agora map back for a limited time. Neither figure establishes the game’s player count or map availability in October 2026.
