Mike Tyson’s representatives said his company, Tyrannic, LLC, was entitled to end its licensing agreement with Medier because Medier had materially breached it. That was Tyrannic’s position in December 2024—not a court finding. The roughly $1.6 million figure refers to damages Medier claimed over the agreement, not money a court ordered Tyson to pay.
What did Tyson’s representatives say?
In a statement reported by SPORTbible on December 7, 2024, Tyson’s legal representatives, speaking for Tyrannic, LLC, said:
“It is the company’s position that Medier, Ltd. materially breached the terms of its license agreement on multiple occasions and in various ways. As such, Tyrannic, LLC was well within its legal and contractual rights to terminate the license agreement for material breach in an effort to mitigate additional reputational harm to the Tyson brand.”
The statement presents Tyrannic’s defense: it says Medier breached first and that Tyrannic had a contractual right to terminate. It does not establish that Medier breached the agreement, and the reported coverage does not show that a court accepted Tyrannic’s position. Why was Medier suing Tyson and Tyrannic?
Reuters reported that Medier Ltd., a Cyprus-registered company promoting the Rabona online casino and betting brand, filed a contract lawsuit against Tyson and Tyrannic in London’s High Court in October 2024. Medier said a promotional licensing agreement was made in January 2024 and terminated in March, the same day Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul was announced.
Medier alleged that Tyson and Tyrannic ended the deal to pursue the Netflix-backed fight, and claimed the termination caused about €1.46 million in losses. Medier’s lawyer characterized the termination as unlawful in court documents, according to Reuters and ESPN. Those are allegations made by the claimant, not established findings. What does the $1.6 million figure mean?
Reuters described Medier’s claim as nearly €1.5 million, or $1.59 million. The “$1.6 million” headline figure rounds that reported dollar conversion. It is the amount Medier claimed in losses—not a judgment, payment, or established debt owed by Tyson or Tyrannic.
