The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) invited applications for 4,002 J&K Police constable posts from 30 July to 29 August 2024; “registration begins today” is historical wording, not a current invitation to apply. Check JKSSB’s official notices for later updates or new advertisements.
What the 2024 JKSSB constable notice covered
JKSSB’s Advertisement Notification No. 01 of 2024, dated 16 July 2024, advertised 4,002 constable vacancies in the J&K Police Home Department. The posts covered Armed/IRP, SDRF, Telecommunication, Photographer and Executive Police roles. The notice set Level 2 pay at ₹19,900–63,200. Vacancy counts and category allocations differ by post; the official notification’s tables, rather than the total alone, govern each vacancy.
The application period ran from 30 July through 29 August 2024. It has ended, so candidates cannot apply under this notice now. JKSSB’s current What’s New page includes later notices and selection-list activity related to the recruitment. Consult the board’s live notices for any result, correction or subsequent recruitment information.
Eligibility depended on the post and candidate category
Domicile and age
Applicants needed to be domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir and hold a valid domicile certificate by the application cutoff. Age was calculated as of 1 January 2024, with limits varying by category and service status. The advertisement’s eligibility and age tables contain the controlling limits; a single age range cannot accurately describe every applicant.

These are not interchangeable requirements: the qualification for the specific post applied for controls. Candidates should also check the notification’s category-wise vacancy and eligibility details.
How selection was scheduled to work
- Written examination: Candidates were to take an objective multiple-choice test. The notice specified a penalty of one-quarter mark for each wrong answer. JKSSB said the syllabus would be notified separately, along with exam dates and centres.
- Physical Standard Test (PST): Candidates progressing according to merit were to undergo a qualifying physical-standard assessment.
- Physical Endurance Test (PET): Candidates were also to complete the qualifying endurance events set out in the notice’s annexures.
The physical tests were qualifying, not a source of extra written-exam merit. The notice also provided for NCC bonus marks in accordance with the cited government order. It stated: “The syllabus for the posts shall be notified separately and made available on the official website of JKSSB.”

PET events varied by candidate
The stated events included a 1,600-metre run and 20 push-ups for male candidates, and a 1,000-metre run plus a shot-put event for female candidates. The official notice’s physical-test annexures set the exact timing and distance standards; candidates should refer to those annexures rather than rely on a summary of the events.
