American Airlines forecast more than 118,000 flights and an estimated 12.7 million customers from December 18, 2024, through January 6, 2025. Those were projections for the 2024–25 holiday period, not final passenger totals. The announcement followed the airline’s account of its Thanksgiving operations.
What American forecast for the 2024–25 winter holidays
In a December 2024 report, TravelPulse said American expected to operate more than 118,000 flights and serve an estimated 12.7 million customers between December 18, 2024, and January 6, 2025. These figures describe the airline’s forecast for that period; they do not establish how many flights it ultimately operated or how many customers traveled. TravelPulse’s report
What the airline said about Thanksgiving performance
TravelPulse reported American’s claim that it led major network competitors in on-time departures and had the fewest mainline cancellations over Thanksgiving. That is an airline claim relayed by a secondary outlet, not an independently audited ranking. The claim is specifically about mainline cancellations; it should not be read as a comparison of all mainline and regional operations, or as independently verified industry data. No like-for-like competitor dataset was provided.
American Chief Operating Officer David Seymour thanked employees, describing the performance as “industry-leading”: “American delivered industry-leading operational performance over Thanksgiving, and I’d like to thank our team members for their hard work in safely caring for our customers.” TravelPulse quoted Seymour on December 16, 2024; the quote is attributed to him through that report. Separate, later guidance for travelers using DFW
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s December 2025 holiday announcement concerns the 2025–26 season, not American’s December 2024 forecast. DFW projected nearly 5 million airport customers from December 18, 2025, through January 6, 2026—about 3.2% above the prior year—and recommended arriving at least two hours before domestic flights or three hours before international flights. These are airport-specific projections and recommendations for that later holiday period. DFW’s 2025 holiday travel announcement
DFW said American customers could check in at any terminal and use Skylink after security. The airport also advised travelers to check live traffic before choosing a terminal, since construction and congestion could affect road access. This guidance is dated December 2025 and applies to DFW; it is not a general American Airlines rule or a current forecast for future holiday seasons. DFW’s terminal and traffic guidance
