What GameStop’s “significant number” warning meant
GameStop made the forecast in its fiscal 2024 Form 10-K, filed March 25, 2025. The company said it had closed 590 U.S. stores in fiscal 2024 and expected to close a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025. The forecast is now historical. GameStop’s fiscal 2025 ended January 31, 2026; its fiscal 2026 runs through January 30, 2027. Those fiscal-year labels do not match calendar years.
How many stores did GameStop close?

For context, the same annual filing reported that, as of January 31, 2026, GameStop operated 2,206 stores across its segments: 1,598 in the United States, 308 in Europe and 300 in Australia. This is a store-count snapshot at that date; it should not be added to or treated as directly comparable with closure totals from other fiscal years.
Is GameStop planning another large round of closures?
In its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K and its Form 10-Q for the six months ended August 1, 2026, GameStop said it did not anticipate closing a significant number of stores in fiscal 2026. The company described its domestic footprint as a core component of its logistics infrastructure strategy. This is management’s current stated outlook in those filings, not a guarantee that no locations will close; the company’s guidance may change. What determines which stores close?
GameStop says it conducts a comprehensive portfolio optimization review each year. It says potential closures may be identified based on current market conditions and the performance of individual stores. The cited SEC filings do not provide a definitive location-by-location list of planned closures. Because the earlier forecast said specific stores had not yet been identified, and the later disclosures report company-wide figures and guidance rather than a local list, they cannot confirm whether a particular nearby location will close.

GameStop also reported international exits and divestitures, including the completed sale of its French subsidiary in fiscal 2026’s second quarter.
