Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor were each reported to have a guaranteed $1 million purse for their April 30, 2022 fight at Madison Square Garden. That figure refers to the reported purse for the first bout—not verified total compensation or take-home pay after bonuses, revenue sharing, taxes or other deductions.
What was reported about the 2022 purses?
Before the fight, AS USA reported that both boxers were guaranteed $1 million for appearing in the bout. After Taylor won, BBC Sport described her purse as $1 million. Together, those reports support the claim that each fighter had a reported million-dollar purse for the event.
The bout took place at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 30, 2022. It was a lightweight title fight, with Taylor defending her undisputed title; the event announcement said it would be broadcast worldwide on DAZN. Taylor won by split decision, according to Netflix’s announcement of the rematch.
What the $1 million figure does—and does not—mean
A reported guaranteed purse is not the same thing as a boxer’s complete compensation or net earnings. The available reports do not establish whether either fighter received additional bonuses or a share of event revenue, and they do not account for taxes or other deductions. They also do not disclose signed bout contracts or an official commission purse filing. The exact amount either fighter ultimately took home is therefore not established.

Do not confuse the 2022 purse with rematch reports
Coverage of the November 2024 rematch discussed substantially larger amounts, but those figures concern a different fight and are not evidence of either boxer’s 2022 earnings.
- Amanda Serrano: In a November 10, 2024 post quoted by Sports Illustrated, Serrano said the pair had surpassed their first fight’s million-dollar payday. She did not disclose her exact rematch purse.
- Katie Taylor: The Irish Times reported that Taylor was expected to earn just over €6 million for the rematch. That was a reported expectation, not a verified contract figure. The article also said Serrano’s camp claimed her purse would exceed Taylor’s.
These later reports should not be combined with the $1 million figure as if all the amounts described the same bout or the same accounting measure.
