PerthNow’s 2023 Boxing Day roundup covered fashion, footwear, homewares, appliances, beauty and more. Its deals are historical, not current offers.

This is a historical roundup of the 60 Boxing Day deals PerthNow published on 26 December 2023—not a current sale guide. The prices, discounts, codes, stock and offer windows have expired. PerthNow said prices were correct when its article was published; it did not document price histories or a method for proving which offers were objectively the “best.”

What the 2023 roundup included

The deals covered a broad mix of Australian retail, including clothing and accessories, footwear, homewares, kitchen products, appliances, bedding, beauty and skincare, and adult toys and lingerie. Retailers and brands mentioned included Myer, Dyson, The Iconic, The Good Guys, Kogan, Decathlon, Target, Adidas, Levi’s, HOKA, Skechers, Big W, Koala, Sheridan, Eva, Bed Threads, Adore Beauty, Go-To and GHD. The specific terms and eligible stock differed by offer.

One example was Tefal frypans and cookware in Big W’s section, described as half price. The roundup does not identify a particular model, establish its price today, or show that the offer represented the best available value.

What shoppers were looking for that Boxing Day

ABC News reported on 26 December 2023 that the Australian Retail Association forecast $23.9 billion in Australian Boxing Day sales, 1.6 per cent above the previous year. That was a forecast at the time, not a confirmed final sales result.

In the same report, Chadstone centre manager Daniel Boyle described functional purchases as “white goods, audio, homeware, towels” and said shoppers were using gift cards. Australian Retail Association chief executive Paul Zahra said shoppers were trying to stick to budgets amid cost-of-living pressure: “This time people are really trying to make sure they stick to their budgets, which is completely understandable given that everyone’s under such cost of living pressure.” These comments describe the context reported at the time, not a measure of every shopper’s behaviour.

Offer terms varied by retailer

Boxing Day was not one uniform sale with shared rules. As one specific example, MECCA’s official terms for its 2023 promotion offered 50% off the regular sales price on selected products, beginning online at 6am AEDT on 26 December and ending when selected stock ran out. Gift cards and services were excluded, and the offer could not be combined with another offer unless stated. Those terms applied to MECCA’s promotion, not to every deal in the roundup.

PerthNow’s page said Boxing Day sale durations can range from one day to a week or longer, but that general description does not verify the dates or availability of each offer listed in its 2023 article.

Trends are not proof of the biggest discounts

7NEWS reported that popular or wishlisted products at The Iconic in 2023 included Stanley cups, denim maxi skirts, Lorna Jane leggings, Nike Court Vision Low sneakers, Vans Old Skool sneakers and Levi’s 501 jeans. These were examples of products attracting interest, not evidence that they had the largest discounts in PerthNow’s roundup.

How to judge a current Boxing Day offer

This historical list cannot establish whether a present-day promotion is good value. For a current purchase, compare the exact model and its current price with a credible recent price history, then check the offer’s eligibility, exclusions, stock, delivery terms, returns policy and whether it applies online, in store or both. A discount percentage alone does not show how a price compares with what the item has recently sold for.

PerthNow disclosed that Seven West Media may receive commission from purchases made through its links. That disclosure does not establish the quality or value of any listed product.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
