Act quickly: whether you can cancel depends on the order’s fulfillment status. If it has shipped, tracking and return options may be your next steps rather than cancellation.
Cancel the order in Your Orders

Sign in to the Amazon account used to place the purchase and open Your Orders.

Open the order details. Select the option to cancel the relevant item or the order, then complete the on-screen confirmation. Amazon’s order support options include order management and cancellations; the controls shown depend on the order’s status.

Check the order details or account communications for confirmation that the cancellation went through.

If the cancellation option is missing
Check the status shown in Your Orders. “Before delivery” does not necessarily mean an order can still be cancelled: dispatch and fulfillment status matter. Amazon’s order-change guidance covers changes before dispatch and directs customers with third-party seller orders to the seller when appropriate.

Third-party seller order, within 30 minutes: Amazon says customers can usually cancel through Your Orders during the first 30 minutes after placing the order.

Third-party seller order, after 30 minutes but before shipment: Request cancellation from the seller as soon as possible. In the order details, check “Sold by” and “Ships from” to see which party is involved. Amazon explains the process in its third-party seller ordering guidance.

Order already shipped: Use Track package to check its progress. If it arrives, review the return options available for that order. Cancellation or interception after shipment is not guaranteed. Amazon lists tracking, returns, and seller help among its customer-service options.

What a pending card amount means after cancellation
A pending amount may be an authorization rather than a completed charge. Amazon says that when an order is cancelled before shipment, an authorization may appear on a statement but is not an actual charge; see Identify an Amazon Charge.
Amazon says it tells the bank when an authorization is no longer required. Its authorizations guidance says banks typically release the funds within 5–7 days after receiving that notice. That is Amazon’s stated typical timeframe, not a guarantee: the bank controls when the pending amount disappears.
