First check that Etsy Payments is available where you live and that your product fits Etsy’s Creativity Standards. Fees vary by location, so review the amounts shown during setup before committing.
Before you open your shop: check eligibility, product fit and costs
Confirm Etsy supports shop opening in your country
Etsy shops can be opened only in countries where Etsy Payments is available. Check Etsy’s current country eligibility list before starting. Your bank country can also affect payment processing fees and the payment options available during onboarding.
Check that your item qualifies
Etsy says items listed for sale must be made, designed, handpicked or sourced by the seller under its Creativity Standards. Review those standards and Etsy’s Seller Policy for your specific item before preparing a listing.
Understand the main fees
Etsy’s fee guidance accessed on October 8, 2026 lists a $0.20 USD listing fee per listing. A listing remains active for four months or until it sells, and the fee is charged whether or not it sells. Etsy also lists a 6.5% transaction fee on the order amount, including shipping and gift wrap when charged to the customer. Payment processing fees vary by bank country; Etsy’s U.S. selling page gives a U.S. example of 3% + $0.25 per transaction, which should not be applied to sellers elsewhere.

A one-time shop setup fee may apply. Etsy says any applicable amount varies by location, appears during setup and is non-refundable once paid. Offsite Ads charges apply to sales attributed to those ads. Participation is optional for most sellers, but may be required depending on sales during a 12-month period. Check Etsy’s fee schedule and U.S. selling page for current details, then rely on the rates and any setup fee shown for your location during onboarding.

Create or sign in to your Etsy account
Use an existing Etsy account or create one to begin opening a shop. Etsy lists account access as the first action in its shop-opening instructions.

Set your shop location and currency
Choose the location where your shop operates and its currency during setup. Make these choices carefully: eligibility depends on Etsy Payments availability, while processing fees can depend on your bank country.

Choose a shop name
Pick a name you can use consistently to identify your shop. Enter it in the setup flow and follow Etsy’s on-screen availability and naming requirements.

Create your first listing
Add the product information Etsy requests and publish a listing as part of setup. Check the Creativity Standards before listing, and make sure the description, photos, price and shipping details accurately represent the item. The listing fee applies even if the item does not sell.

Set how you receive payments
Follow Etsy’s prompts to configure your payment method. The available setup depends on your location and Etsy Payments eligibility. Confirm your bank and payment details carefully before proceeding.

Add a billing method and finish onboarding
Provide the billing method Etsy requests for fees, then review any applicable shop setup fee displayed on screen. Etsy says that fee varies by location and is non-refundable once paid. Complete the remaining prompts to finish opening the shop.

What to do after the shop opens
Once the first listing is live, keep its information current and review your fee statements so you can distinguish listing, transaction, processing and any advertising charges. If you sell physical goods, Etsy offers shipping labels in certain countries. A thermal shipping-label printer may make fulfillment more convenient if you ship regularly, but it is not required to open a shop; check that it works with the shipping-label workflow available to you.
Other supplies—such as packaging, photo lighting or craft materials—depend on what you sell. Treat them as optional business choices rather than prerequisites for opening an Etsy shop.
