The Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition is complete, but the post-close evidence does not confirm a specific DCU change caused by the deal. DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran said James Gunn and he are expected to keep leading the studio and that, as far as they could tell, its direction was unchanged. That is an attributed statement of current intent—not a guarantee that plans will never change.
What happened to Paramount’s Warner Bros. deal?
Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, and the combined company is called Skydance, according to the company’s completion announcement. The deal is no longer pending, so any effects on DC belong in the context of a completed acquisition rather than a prospective bid.
The Associated Press described the takeover as $81 billion and separately reported that the amount was nearly $111 billion including debt. Those are two descriptions of the transaction, not figures for the DCU’s budget or performance. AP’s report on the completed deal gives the post-close context.
Is the DCU already changing because of the acquisition?
No specific DCU creative or production change caused by the acquisition is established in the post-close reporting cited here. The title’s claim that changes were already happening reflects an earlier report, but that claim cannot be treated as confirmed without a clearly identified, checkable account naming what changed.

In a post-close interview with the Associated Press, DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran said James Gunn and he were expected to continue running the studio. Asked whether Skydance might change DC’s direction, Safran replied: “As far as we can tell, not at all. David Ellison was like, ‘I just want you to keep doing what you’re doing.’” AP’s interview and report make this a direct, attributed account of Safran’s understanding—not a binding promise about every future project or corporate decision.
What the available evidence does—and does not—show
| Evidence | What it supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Safran’s post-close comments to AP | Gunn and Safran are expected to continue leading DC Studios; Safran said the direction appeared unchanged. | A guarantee that the studio’s plans cannot change later. |
| Skydance’s DC Studios positioning, as described by GamesRadar | The company’s site described a “long-term creative architecture” spanning film, television, animation, and gaming. GamesRadar’s account provides secondary context. | A named project change or proof that a particular slate decision has been implemented. |
| Paramount/Skydance’s completion announcement | The deal closed, and the company acknowledged general integration risks and uncertainty about expected synergies. The official announcement states those corporate risks. | Evidence that any particular DC production, release, or creative plan has changed. |
The distinction matters: a new owner may review operations, but that possibility is not proof of a specific creative decision. A concrete claim about the DCU should identify the project or plan, who made the decision, and when it took effect.

Could the merger affect streaming access to DC content?
Possibly over time, but there was no immediate service change at closing. AP reported that HBO Max and Paramount+ looked the same immediately after the deal, while the company said the streamers “will unify into a single service over time.” The announcement provided no timeline. AP’s post-close coverage does not support claims that one service has already replaced the other or specify how DC titles will be distributed.
