The film is TRON: Ares, Disney’s third feature in the TRON series. Jared Leto plays Ares, a digital Program sent into the human world. But the claim that its box office could make Morbius look good remains an unverified comparison: the available sources do not establish reliable, comparable final worldwide grosses for the two films.
What is Jared Leto’s Disney action sequel?
TRON: Ares follows TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010). Disney identifies Leto as Ares and Joachim Rønning as the director. The film entered theaters on October 10, 2025, according to Disney’s October 2025 film description; Disney had announced that date in August 2024.
Disney describes Ares as a Program from the digital world sent into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humanity’s first encounter with A.I. beings. That is the movie’s fictional premise; it does not show that artificial intelligence wrote, designed, or produced the film. The phrase “Make You Wish A.I. Destroyed Hollywood” is a provocative headline, not an official description or a verified account of the production.
What is the film about beneath the A.I. premise?
Director Joachim Rønning described the story’s focus as personal rather than technological: “For me, it’s the human factor and it’s about Ares and his journey and discovering what it means and what it takes to be human,” he said in Disney’s October 2025 feature. That is Rønning’s account of the film’s intended heart, not a guarantee of how viewers will respond.
#1 Best Overall
- Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of “Tron: Ares.” When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Jeff Bridges, returning as Kevin Flynn, framed the premise at D23 as a visit in the other direction: “What a perfect time for the TRON world to be revisited,” he said, then added, “Or, I should say, for the digital world to visit us, because our plot does involve an A.I. program coming into the real world.”
Did TRON: Ares do worse at the box office than Morbius?
The available evidence does not establish that it did. No reliable, comparable final worldwide theatrical grosses for TRON: Ares and Morbius are established in the sources behind this comparison, so the headline’s box-office suggestion should be treated as rhetoric rather than a confirmed result.

A fair comparison would use the same measure for both films—for example, final worldwide theatrical gross against final worldwide theatrical gross, or opening weekend against opening weekend. Domestic and worldwide totals are not interchangeable, and gross revenue is not studio profit. A claim about profitability would also require comparable, clearly sourced budget figures and a sound basis for estimating costs and revenue.
The commentary that prompted the comparison argues that the film might perform poorly and criticizes Disney’s sequel strategy, but those are the author’s judgments and predictions, not independently verified financial facts. Without matching, credible figures, it would be misleading to declare either film the box-office loser.

Where it sits in the TRON series
The franchise began with TRON in 1982 and continued with TRON: Legacy in 2010, according to Disney. Viewers looking for the background to TRON: Ares can start with those two earlier films; Disney said it had remastered both in 4K Ultra HD in an October 24, 2025, Walt Disney Archives article. That article also discussed franchise artifacts such as costumes, helmets, and identity discs. Any current edition or viewing availability should be checked for the reader’s region.
