Ticketmaster said it would restrict brokers to one account, shut down its TradeDesk resale-tracking tool, and use tax ID verification and AI tools to identify and cancel accounts linked to scalping. Those were announced plans, not confirmed implementation. The announcement, reported by Venture Capital Post on October 21, 2025, came amid criticism and an FTC lawsuit alleging that Ticketmaster and Live Nation allowed scalpers to buy tickets in volume and resell them at high prices.
What Ticketmaster said it would change
Venture Capital Post reported that Live Nation executive vice president Daniel Wall announced a restriction on brokers using multiple accounts. The report quoted Wall as saying: “We are therefore announcing today that we will no longer let any broker maintain, buy tickets with, or post resale tickets with more than one account.”
The reported package also included closing TradeDesk, a resale-tracking tool, and using tax ID verification and AI tools to identify and cancel accounts connected to scalpers. The article describes these as planned measures; it does not confirm that they were carried out.
Why the announcement drew scrutiny
The announcement came amid an FTC lawsuit alleging that Ticketmaster and Live Nation allowed scalpers to buy tickets in volume and resell them at high prices. That is an allegation reported alongside the announcement, not a court finding.

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) characterized the changes as “too little, too late” and urged a resale price cap, according to Venture Capital Post. The reported Ticketmaster measures focus on account limits and enforcement; NIVA’s requested cap addresses resale prices. The article does not establish that either approach would be effective, and the approaches are not necessarily alternatives.
Ticketmaster’s anti-bot figures are company claims
Venture Capital Post reported that Ticketmaster said it blocked 6 billion fake accounts during the year and had invested more than $1 billion in anti-bot technology. These are figures attributed to the company in the October 21, 2025 report, not independently validated measurements in that article.

What is not established
- Whether the multiple-account restriction was implemented or how it would be enforced.
- Whether TradeDesk was shut down.
- Whether tax ID checks and AI enforcement were deployed, and how accounts would be identified or challenged.
- Whether the company-reported anti-bot figures can be independently verified.
- The later status or outcome of the FTC lawsuit.
The available account is a secondary report, not the underlying company letter, FTC complaint, or NIVA statement. It does not provide a later implementation or litigation update, so the announced measures should not be treated as a verified change in current Ticketmaster policy.
