The report that three groups were interested in buying Sheffield Wednesday was published on 14 April 2025, when no offers had been made. The club later entered administration; on 2 May 2026, the EFL confirmed it had left administration under new ownership after an agreed asset transfer to Arise Capital Partners LLC. The early report did not identify the groups as bidders who went on to buy the club.
What did the April 2025 report say?
On 14 April 2025, The72 reported that The Star had described three groups as interested in the possibility of a Sheffield Wednesday takeover: two from the United States and one from the United Kingdom. The report said no offers had been made at that point. It did not name the groups or establish that they had submitted bids. (The72, 14 April 2025)
That distinction matters: the report was about expressions of interest, not a confirmed sale process outcome. The available account does not provide a basis to compare the groups by price, funding, or proposed plans for the club.
What happened after that report?
The takeover story changed materially in October 2025. On 24 October, the EFL announced that administrators had been appointed to Sheffield Wednesday and the company that owns Hillsborough. The EFL said administration triggered an automatic 12-point deduction and created an opportunity to move toward a sale and new ownership. (EFL, 24 October 2025)

On 2 May 2026, the EFL confirmed that the joint administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC to transfer the club’s assets. It named the consortium as led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin, and said Sheffield Wednesday was under new ownership and no longer in administration. (EFL, 2 May 2026)
Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?
As of the EFL’s 2 May 2026 announcement, Sheffield Wednesday was under new ownership following the asset transfer agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC. The EFL identified David Storch as the consortium’s lead, with Michael Storch and Tom Costin also named. The announcement does not say that any of the three groups mentioned in April 2025 was this consortium, so the original interested parties should not be treated as identified buyers.

What happened to Dejphon Chansiri?
The April 2025 report framed the possibility of a takeover as an end to Dejphon Chansiri’s era, but it did not establish a buyer or completed deal. The later official milestone was the administrators’ asset-transfer agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC, followed by the EFL’s confirmation that the club had new ownership. The EFL said its decision not to impose a further 15-point deduction on exit from administration took account of proposals made to Chansiri by the joint administrators and new ownership. That 15-point decision is separate from the 12-point deduction triggered when the club entered administration.

Leaving administration did not mean Sheffield Wednesday was free of all financial controls. The EFL said the club would remain under a budget restriction for the next two seasons and could register players in line with an agreed business plan. It did not publish private transaction terms in that announcement.

The EFL also describes acquisition of control as subject to EFL and Independent Football Regulator requirements. Its guidance says the Owner, Director and Senior Executive (ODSE) regime began on 5 May 2026 and covers honesty and integrity, financial soundness, financial resources, and competence. This is general governance context; it does not establish additional terms of the Wednesday transaction. (EFL owner and director guidance, accessed 8 October 2026)
