ChopValue turns used disposable chopsticks into engineered composite products, including tabletops and furniture. GeekWire reported on September 3, 2024, that the Vancouver-based company announced nearly $3 million in additional funding; combined with an $11 million investment disclosed in April 2024, the financing made up the Series A round described in that report.
How used chopsticks become tabletops
ChopValue’s collection model starts with partner venues such as restaurants, hotels, offices and malls. GeekWire’s September 2024 account says the venues receive collection bins that are emptied weekly, with the used chopsticks sent to local microfactories.
From collection bin to composite
At the microfactories, the chopsticks are sorted, coated with water-based resin, dried and compressed under high temperatures, according to GeekWire’s description of the process. The result is an engineered composite material that can be made into products for homes and businesses. The report does not establish additional sanitation steps or independently verified environmental performance.
What the material is used for
ChopValue’s catalog lists products including tabletops, desks, side tables, shelves and kitchen goods. Its end-grain board is presented as suitable for cutting or serving. Product selection, prices and availability may vary by region and over time; the listings establish that ChopValue offers these products, not that they are sold through any particular third-party retailer.

What the funding announcement said
GeekWire reported on September 3, 2024, that ChopValue announced nearly $3 million in additional funding. The report said this amount, together with an $11 million investment disclosed in April 2024, comprised the company’s Series A. InBC Investment Corp., described by GeekWire as a fund founded by the Province of British Columbia, was identified as an investor in the additional funding; the report did not name the other investors.
This was not ChopValue’s first financing milestone. In a March 31, 2023, announcement, the company said it had raised $7.7 million in growth funding. That earlier round is separate from the 2024 Series A figures.

How large was the operation?
GeekWire’s September 2024 report gave company figures of more than 176 million chopsticks transformed, 80 microfactories in nine countries and more than $22 million raised in total. Those are figures reported in 2024, not verified current totals. ChopValue’s March 2023 announcement had earlier marked the transformation of its 100 millionth chopstick.
The scale numbers show what the company reported at those dates. They do not, by themselves, establish how much waste or emissions the process avoids. The sources cited here do not provide an independent lifecycle assessment comparing ChopValue’s products with conventional alternatives.

For a personal-finance reader, the funding news is a dated financing milestone, not evidence of a public investment opportunity or a current valuation. The announced financing and company-reported operating figures do not establish profitability, future returns or present-day fundraising totals.
