Which Film Studios Made the Most Money From Their 2025 Slates?

S&P Global Market Intelligence estimates Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures led selected major studios’ 2025 film slates with $2.41 billion in lifecycle net profit—but that is not a ranking of the world’s wealthiest production companies.

By estimated net profit from their 2025 film slates, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures leads the major studios compared: S&P Global Market Intelligence estimates its films will generate $2.41 billion over their lifecycles. That is a slate-level estimate—not a ranking of the world’s richest production companies by revenue, assets, valuation, or total profit.

What “richest” means in this comparison

There is no single, comparable measure here of the wealth of every production company worldwide. Instead, S&P Global Market Intelligence projected revenue and costs over the lifecycles of selected major studios’ 2025 film releases, then estimated each slate’s net profit. The figures are estimates, not audited accounts or results reported by the studios. They describe one year’s films, not the overall financial health of a studio or its parent company. S&P Global Market Intelligence’s 2026 analysis is the basis for the comparison.

On that measure, Disney’s Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures ranks first among the slates listed. The numbers do not establish a definitive global ranking of production houses by company-level wealth.

The table compares the estimated net profit figures reported by S&P. Positive figures are estimated profits; negative figures are estimated losses.

Studio or film label Estimated 2025 slate net profit
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures $2.41 billion
Warner Bros. $1.34 billion
Universal Pictures $1.01 billion
Columbia Pictures Industries $730.2 million
20th Century Studios $638.1 million
Lionsgate Films $197.8 million
Paramount Pictures -$85.5 million
Amazon MGM Studios -$5.3 million

All figures in the table are S&P Global Market Intelligence estimates of net profit from the studios’ 2025 film slates, projected over film lifecycles; they are not audited company results. The source estimated Disney’s slate would earn $6.15 billion in lifecycle revenue against $3.74 billion in costs, for a 39.2% margin. Those revenue and cost estimates apply to the slate, not Disney as a whole. Source: S&P Global Market Intelligence, 2026.

Why parent-company revenue does not make a studio ranking

A film label is not the same thing as the company that owns it. Parent companies may report revenue from television, distribution, advertising, streaming, licensing, and other businesses. Those company-wide totals cannot be compared directly with an estimate of profit from one studio’s film slate.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery reported $37.296 billion in consolidated revenue for 2025. Its 2026 Form 10-K covers the former parent’s businesses and is not a Warner Bros. studio revenue figure. Warner Bros. Discovery, 2026 Form 10-K.
  • Disney’s annual report describes multiple content banners and how production costs are allocated across distribution windows; it does not make the parent’s overall results equivalent to a single film label’s slate. The Walt Disney Company, 2025 Annual Report.
  • Comcast’s Studios segment includes content licensing, theatrical, and other revenue spanning film, television, home entertainment, and live entertainment. Comcast annual reporting.

These measures answer different questions. Revenue is money brought in; slate net profit is an estimate of revenue minus costs for a defined set of films; and neither alone establishes a company’s total wealth or valuation.

How the major-studio landscape has changed

“Big Five” is a historical industry shorthand for Disney, Paramount, Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros.—not a list of all the world’s production companies. Cinema United says those studios accounted for 77% of the total market from 1995 through 2025. It notes the group was formerly the “Big Six,” before Disney acquired most of 20th Century Fox in 2019. The 77% figure describes historical market concentration, not a current wealth ranking. Cinema United, January 2026 filing.

Ownership also changed after the 2025 film slates in the table. The Associated Press reported on October 7, 2026, that David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance had completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The former parent companies should therefore not be described as independent of one another in current-tense coverage. AP reported that Paramount Skydance described the post-acquisition company’s annual revenue as nearly $70 billion; it also cited FactSet’s combined revenue of $65.3 billion for the 12 months ended in June. Neither figure is studio-only revenue or a like-for-like comparison with the slate estimates above. Associated Press, October 7, 2026.
