There is no defensible, current global “top 10” ranking in the available published fee data: schools report different years, grade levels, boarding arrangements and fee inclusions. On a consistent headline-fee basis, the highest verified figure in the checked 2026/27 school documents is Aiglon College’s CHF 168,000 for Years 12–13 boarding. Add compulsory annual charges, however, and Beau Soleil’s reported Grade 11 total reaches CHF 183,390. Those figures answer different questions, so they should not be presented as one ranking.
Why there is no reliable global top 10
“Most expensive” depends on what the number includes. A published boarding-and-tuition fee is not necessarily the full annual bill: schools may charge recurring fees for trips or other required services, while optional expenses, individual student charges, entry fees and deposits can change what a family pays. Rankings can also mislead when they compare different school years, grade levels, day and boarding rates, or currencies.
The figures below are a Swiss-school comparison, not a verified worldwide top ten. The comparison source identifies its school-year, year-group and headline-fee basis, but the available evidence does not establish ten globally comparable fees. Amounts remain in Swiss francs (CHF), as published; no exchange-rate date is assumed. The comparison explains its method and figures.

This table orders the listed examples by their published headline boarding fee. Fees are not all for the same year group, and the headline amount is not necessarily the total compulsory annual cost.

These are examples among the Swiss schools checked, not a complete census of Swiss schools or a ranking of schools worldwide. The source does not establish comparable mandatory-extra totals for every row, so the headline-fee order should not be read as a total-cost order.
How much can compulsory extras change the comparison?
Beau Soleil: a larger reported total than its headline fee
For 2026/27, the comparison calculates Beau Soleil’s Grade 11 annual total as CHF 183,390 after adding compulsory annual charges and trip fees to the CHF 148,440 boarding-and-tuition fee. The CHF 183,390 figure is a calculated total reported by the comparison, not the school’s headline boarding fee. It is therefore not directly comparable to rows where only the headline fee is supplied.

Aiglon: the fee varies by year group
Aiglon’s 2026/27 financial information lists CHF 168,000 for Years 12–13 boarding and CHF 156,800 for Years 10–11 boarding. The CHF 168,000 figure includes VAT. A comparison that omits year groups can obscure this difference. Aiglon’s financial information gives the school’s published fees.
What newer and historical figures say about Le Rosey
Le Rosey’s official financial conditions for 2027/28 set boarding and tuition at CHF 164,400 for Classes 5 through Terminale. The school identifies separate IB-related and other charges, so this figure is not an all-in total. Its 2026/27 boarding-and-tuition fee was CHF 159,600, as reported by the comparison based on the school’s prior conditions; the two amounts refer to different school years and should not be combined as if they were one schedule. Le Rosey’s September 2026 financial conditions show its 2027/28 fees.

Le Rosey’s reputation as an exceptionally expensive school also reflects an older record: Guinness World Records lists CHF 115,500, dated 2018. That is historical context, not a current fee. Guinness World Records’ entry gives the date and figure.

Institut auf dem Rosenberg states an average annual fee of CHF 165,000, made up of a CHF 100,000 base fee and average individual fees of CHF 65,000. The school says the individual fees vary; its fee page does not specify a school year. Because this is an average rather than a fixed year-group schedule, it cannot be placed directly into the 2026/27 headline-fee table. Rosenberg’s fee information describes the structure.

How families should compare school costs
For a household budget, a headline number is only a starting point. Ask each school for a written estimate for the intended student, year and school year, then compare matching categories:
- Academic year and year group: fees can change between school years and across grades.
- Day or boarding: compare the same attendance arrangement, and check exactly what boarding includes.
- Tuition and recurring mandatory charges: separate the published tuition or boarding fee from charges every student in that group must pay, including required trips.
- Optional or student-specific costs: identify expenses that depend on the student or choices made during the year.
- One-time charges and deposits: ask which amounts are charged at entry, whether deposits are refundable, and when they are due.
- Tax treatment and currency: check whether VAT or another tax is included and compare in the school’s published currency unless you use a clearly dated exchange rate.
- Fee type: distinguish a fixed schedule for a named year group from an average that includes variable individual charges.
Does a higher fee mean a better education?
Not by itself. These fee figures describe prices and, in some cases, what is included; they do not establish that a more expensive school delivers better teaching or educational outcomes. Families need evidence on the factors relevant to their student—such as curriculum, support, location and fit—in addition to a comparable full-cost estimate.
