Serena Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles—the most by a woman in the Open Era—and earned $94,618,080 in career singles and doubles prize money, according to Guinness World Records’ figure as of August 30, 2022. That figure is her on-court prize money, not her total income or net worth.
Serena Williams’s biggest wins
Williams’s 23 major singles titles came across all four Grand Slam tournaments. The WTA lists these wins on her official player profile.
| Tournament | Singles titles | Winning years |
|---|---|---|
| Australian Open | 7 | 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2017 |
| Roland Garros | 3 | 2002, 2013, 2015 |
| Wimbledon | 7 | 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016 |
| US Open | 6 | 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 |
Her first major singles title was the 1999 US Open, where she beat Martina Hingis. Her 23rd and final one came at the 2017 Australian Open: she defeated her sister Venus in the final while pregnant, as the WTA recounts in its 2022 retirement announcement.
What made her record distinctive
Two “Serena Slams”
Williams held all four major singles titles at once on two occasions: from the 2002 French Open through the 2003 Australian Open, and from the 2014 US Open through Wimbledon in 2015. These runs are known as the “Serena Slam.” They were not calendar-year Grand Slams, which require winning all four majors in the same calendar year.

More than major titles
The WTA records 73 singles titles overall, including five WTA Finals wins and 23 WTA 1000 titles. Williams spent 319 weeks ranked No. 1 and finished with an 858–156 singles win-loss record. The WTA’s 2022 retirement release credits her with 367 Grand Slam match wins.

How much Serena Williams earned in prize money
Guinness World Records gives Williams’s career prize money as $94,618,080 as of August 30, 2022, attributing the figure to WTA data. It covers singles and doubles prize money earned since she turned professional in October 1995. This is the clearest dated figure for her completed playing career; the WTA’s retirement release rounds it to more than $94.6 million.
A different WTA media guide published in 2022 lists $94,518,971. That lower number is a separate dated snapshot, not the same reference point as Guinness’s August 30 total. For a final-career figure with an explicit as-of date, use Guinness’s amount.

The $94,618,080 figure is tournament prize money, not a full accounting of everything Williams earned. Endorsements and business income are separate categories; the available reporting does not establish one consolidated lifetime total for them. Forbes’s 2022 retirement coverage discusses her commercial earnings and a wealth estimate, but those measures should not be added to prize money or treated as a verified lifetime-income total.
