The new Buc-ee’s in Luling, Texas, opened on June 10, 2024, and the company currently lists it as the world’s largest convenience store: 75,593 square feet. That exact figure is Buc-ee’s current published claim; Texas officials rounded the store’s size to 75,000 square feet in their opening-day announcement.
When did the Luling Buc-ee’s open?
The new travel center opened on June 10, 2024, the same day as its ribbon-cutting ceremony. It replaced Buc-ee’s original large-format Luling travel center.
In the opening-day release, the Office of the Texas Governor said the project represented a $40 million investment and would bring more than 200 new jobs. Those are figures attributed to the governor’s office, not a current employment count.
Is Luling really the biggest Buc-ee’s?
Yes, according to Buc-ee’s current World Records page, which identifies the Luling location as the world’s largest convenience store at 75,593 square feet as of October 8, 2026. The governor’s June 2024 release described it as 75,000 square feet, a rounded opening-era figure.

Why is Luling important in Buc-ee’s history?
The new location brings the company’s largest-store distinction back to the town where its first large-format travel center opened in 2003. Buc-ee’s first location had opened near Lake Jackson and Clute in 1982.
“It just didn’t feel right to build the biggest Buc-ee’s anywhere other than Luling,” Buc-ee’s president and CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III told Texas Co-op Power in September 2024.
