The Dodge SUV behind the $25,000 headline is the Hornet, and that price is an example—not a proven market average or a guaranteed bargain. An article reported a used Hornet R/T plug-in hybrid with a few hundred miles for around $25,000, but whether it is a good buy depends on the specific vehicle, its history, fees, warranty and local alternatives. The Hornet is related to the Alfa Romeo Tonale in platform and package terms; that relationship does not establish that the two handle identically.
Which Dodge SUV is the headline about?
It is the Dodge Hornet, a compact utility vehicle Dodge says was produced in Italy. Dodge’s current Hornet page says production has been paused indefinitely and that the model may still be available at select dealers. That is more precise than assuming there are no new Hornets left to buy.
The Hornet is related to the Alfa Romeo Tonale in platform and package terms, as the article describes. That connection is useful context, but it is not proof that a Hornet has the same handling as a Tonale. The available evidence does not establish an independently measured handling comparison.
What does the $25,000 price actually mean?
The article reports a used Hornet R/T plug-in hybrid with a few hundred miles for around $25,000, and a used 2024 Hornet GT example at $24,000. These are reported examples, not independently verified live listings, completed-sale prices or a market average. Treat them as starting points for checking local inventory, not as a promise that you will find the same car at that price.

A low advertised price can be less compelling once those differences are included.
Why could a Hornet be discounted?
There is evidence of slow-moving new inventory at one point, but it should not be mistaken for current used-car pricing. iSeeCars reported in its December 2025 leftover-inventory analysis that 82.1% of new 2024 Dodge Hornet PHEV inventory remained on dealer lots. That statistic describes listed inventory at the time of that study; it does not establish how many Hornets are available in 2026 or what a particular used example should cost.

Dodge lists the 2025 R/T at up to 288 horsepower on its current Hornet page. That figure is a manufacturer specification, not a measure of whether a specific used car is worth its asking price. Compare the exact trim and powertrain: the GT is gasoline-powered, while the R/T is a plug-in hybrid.
How to assess a specific Hornet before buying
- Compare like with like. Check local asking prices for the same trim and powertrain, then compare mileage, condition, title and history. Use the out-the-door figure, not only the advertised price.
- Check the VIN for recalls. Enter the vehicle’s exact VIN in the NHTSA recall lookup. NHTSA records describe a brake-pedal assembly that may collapse during braking on certain 2024–2025 Hornets, and a December 2025 acknowledgement concerning a recall for certain 2024 Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrids. Neither notice means every Hornet is affected. Ask a Dodge dealer to confirm whether the vehicle has an open recall and whether any required remedy has been completed.
- Verify warranty coverage by vehicle. Ask the seller or dealer for the original in-service date and warranty records, and confirm the remaining coverage, exclusions and terms against the VIN. Do not assume coverage based only on a model-year description or the seller’s summary.
- Consider service and parts access. Dodge says owners will continue to receive customer support, service, warranty coverage and parts supply. The article attributes a related statement to a Dodge spokesperson in March 2026, while Dodge’s current page says production is paused indefinitely. Confirm the support and warranty details relevant to the specific vehicle with a Dodge dealer.
When is $25,000 a good deal?
Call it a good deal only after comparing the actual car’s total price and condition with comparable local vehicles and confirming its history, recall remedies and remaining warranty. The reported low-mileage R/T price may be appealing, but neither the examples nor the leftover-inventory statistic proves that every Hornet near $25,000 is a bargain. The right comparison is the specific VIN against the alternatives you can actually buy.
