The least expensive realistic running Porsches in an August 2026 U.S. market snapshot start around $6,000 for a 924, $7,000 for a first-generation Cayenne, $9,000 for a 944, and $10,000 for a 986 Boxster. Those are indicative asking-price figures, not guaranteed sale prices or a measure of what each car will cost to own. A low purchase price can be a poor deal if deferred repairs consume the money you saved.
Which Porsches are cheapest to buy?
The following U.S. asking-price bands come from CarCody’s guide published August 17, 2026, using market snapshots from August 2026. They are not a population-wide pricing study or fixed valuations. The source excludes tax, registration, transport, inspection, immediate maintenance, and repair reserves; its 987 Boxster band partly reflects observed sales rather than asking prices.
| Model | Indicative U.S. price band | What you are shopping for |
|---|---|---|
| 924 | $6,000–$15,000 | Classic front-engine sports car |
| First-generation Cayenne | $7,000–$18,000 | Older Porsche SUV |
| 944 | $9,000–$25,000 | Classic front-engine sports car |
| 986 Boxster | $10,000–$20,000 | Mid-engine convertible roadster |
| 987 Boxster | $18,000–$30,000 | Later-generation mid-engine roadster |
| 987 Cayman | $20,000–$35,000 | Mid-engine coupe |
| 996-generation 911 | $35,000–$50,000 | Higher-mileage 911 Carrera examples |
See the source’s August 2026 model-by-model price snapshot. Condition, mileage, service history, trim, originality, and location can move a car well outside a broad band.
Can you really buy a Porsche for under $10,000?
Yes, in the cited U.S. snapshot, the 924 and first-generation Cayenne have indicative lower ends of $6,000 and $7,000, respectively, and the 944 begins around $9,000. These are market examples, not promises that a suitable car will be available at that price. The $10,000 lower end for the 986 Boxster is just above that threshold.

Buying under $10,000 is not the same as putting a Porsche on the road for under $10,000. The listed bands do not include taxes, registration, transportation, inspection, immediate service, or repairs. Before making an offer, account for those costs and keep a repair reserve rather than spending the full budget on the car.
Which cheap Porsche makes sense for your budget?
924: the lowest entry price, with classic-car checks
The 924 has the lowest indicative starting point in this snapshot. Its condition and storage history matter: inspect for structural rust and check fuel-system operation, cold starts, overheating, leaks, transmission noise, and brakes. Ask for documentation of timing-belt and water-pump work, and check model-specific trim and weather seals. A cheap classic that needs extensive work may cost more to keep roadworthy than a better-documented example.

- Revell Plastic Model Car Kit #85-4521 is skill level 4 and contains 109 parts. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
- Assembled Dimensions: 7.00"x3.13"x2.19"

- Choice of left or right-hand drive version and either US or Euro spec front turn indicators and rear bumper guards.
- Molded in white and clear with soft black tires. Paint and glue not included.
944: make maintenance records part of the price
For a 944, prioritize records for timing-belt and cooling-system work. If documentation is missing, treat the work as due when estimating your total cost; a parts receipt alone does not establish that the job was completed correctly or that the car is sorted.
986 Boxster: prioritize inspection over the cheapest listing
The 986 Boxster offers a mid-engine convertible at a lower entry point than the 987 Boxster in the cited snapshot. The guide flags potential cooling, suspension, clutch, convertible-top, and engine-related work. A documented car that passes inspection is a more sensible target than selecting solely by asking price.

First-generation Cayenne: inexpensive SUV, potentially expensive repairs
The Cayenne’s low purchase price can be misleading: repairs can exceed what you paid for the vehicle. Check V8 cooling-system condition, air suspension, transfer case, electronics, and drivetrain, and preserve a meaningful repair reserve. It may be a cheap way into a Porsche SUV, but the initial price does not establish affordability over time.
987 Boxster and Cayman: higher entry prices in this snapshot
The 987 Boxster’s indicative band is $18,000–$30,000, while the 987 Cayman is $20,000–$35,000. Those figures are not directly equivalent to asking-price-only ranges because the Boxster band partly uses observed sales. Compare individual cars by condition, service records, inspection findings, and the reserve left after purchase.

996 911: the cheapest listed route to a 911, not the cheapest Porsche
The guide places higher-mileage 996 Carrera examples around $35,000–$50,000 in its U.S. snapshot. It is a route to a 911, not a low-cost alternative to the 924, Cayenne, 944, or 986 Boxster. Budget for a specialist inspection and repairs rather than treating the purchase price as the whole cost.

Prices are U.S.-specific, and the bands above should not be applied to another country. Porsche says market prices differ with local taxes, import duties, exchange rates, and standard equipment. Its new-car guide put the Macan’s approximate U.S. starting price at $65,400 as of May 2026; that is new-car context, not evidence of used-car value. For current local pricing, Porsche recommends checking the local Porsche website or Porsche Centre.

Quick Recap
How to compare the real cost of two candidates
- Set the full budget. Reserve money for tax, registration, transport, inspection, immediate maintenance, and repairs rather than using the entire amount for the purchase.
- Compare cars with similar purpose. A classic 924 or 944, a Boxster, a Cayenne SUV, and a 911 serve different needs; the lowest price is not a useful comparison by itself.
- Review records against model-specific needs. For a 944, focus on timing-belt and cooling-system work; for the other models, investigate the concerns outlined above and request supporting service documentation.
- Have the specific car inspected. Use the findings, condition, mileage, trim, and location to judge whether the asking price leaves enough money for work still needed.
- Recheck current local listings. Prices and availability change, so compare comparable cars near you shortly before buying.
