For 2026 U.S. starting prices, the Subaru BRZ is listed at $30,095, the Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport with a manual transmission at $30,730, and the Toyota GR86 at $31,400. Those figures are close, but they are not confirmed as like-for-like, destination-included prices. The available figures support an entry-price comparison—not a verified winner for every higher price bracket.

On the published starting figures alone, the BRZ is lowest, followed by the Miata and GR86. That ordering is not a delivered-price ranking: destination and handling, taxes, title, dealer charges, regional fees, and the dealer’s selling price can change what a buyer pays. Mazda explicitly says, “Dealers set actual sale prices.”
Why these figures need a careful comparison
Starting MSRP is a useful first filter, not a complete purchase budget. Compare the same cost basis before choosing a winner: manufacturer MSRP versus a price that includes destination, the entry trim and transmission, and any applicable regional charge. Ask dealers for written out-the-door quotes for the exact cars available locally; that is the practical way to compare the amount you would actually pay.
Mazda’s September 15, 2026 pricing release says the MX-5 MSRP increased by $300 effective that date. It also states that the change does not affect dealer inventory already carrying window labels. Mazda lists U.S. destination and handling as $1,315 effective August 11, 2026, and $1,360 in Alaska. Its MSRP excludes destination and handling, taxes, title, and additional fees. A previously labeled car, a current listing, and a dealer quote therefore may not show the same figure.

Which one fits your budget and use?
The three cars are not interchangeable simply because their entry prices are close. The Miata figure is specifically for a manual Sport, and the BRZ is a rear-wheel-drive sports car. The available price information does not establish a complete, like-for-like comparison of equipment, practicality, or transaction costs across all three. Check the exact trim, transmission, included equipment, and local inventory before treating an advertised starting price as a purchase estimate.
