Who was reported to be the highest-paid WRC driver in 2023?
Sportune published a salary table, attributed to Sportspayouts, that put Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville level at an estimated $1.5 million each for 2023. Sportune’s article text separately described their estimated salaries as approximately €1.38 million each. The source does not establish a conversion date or method, so the dollar and euro figures should be read in their original published contexts, not as a documented conversion. (Sportune)
The ranking is an estimate, not an official WRC or FIA salary list. It does not establish that either driver received exactly that amount under a contract.
What were the reported salary estimates for other drivers?
The table below reproduces the annual estimates shown by Sportune and attributed there to Sportspayouts. They are estimates for 2023, not verified payroll disclosures.

What do these figures include—and leave out?
Dicodusport’s January 26, 2023 presentation says its approximate estimates draw on Sports Payouts and exclude bonuses and sponsor-related income. That makes them closer to estimated base salaries than to a complete measure of what a driver might earn from all sources. The presentation converts dollar amounts to euros, but does not make these figures a verified total-earnings ranking. (Dicodusport)
Sportune also notes that Ogier may have sponsorship income beyond the salary estimate. No cited figure establishes that additional income, and it should not be added to the table as though it were known. Salary, bonuses, sponsorship or endorsements, and total earnings are different measures.

How reliable is a WRC driver salary ranking?
Public reporting describes rally-driver compensation as difficult to verify. In an April 1, 2024 article, Business Daily’s Peter Njenga, identified there as CEO of KenGen PLC, wrote that rally drivers’ remuneration is not publicly disclosed and is agreed between drivers and teams. That is his observation, not an FIA rule or proof that every contract is confidential. It does help explain why published salary tables should be treated cautiously. (Business Daily)
Accordingly, the available figures support a statement about what a published estimate reported—not a claim about audited pay, verified contracts, net worth, or the drivers’ complete earnings. The sources do not provide independently confirmed contract data.

What sporting results do—and do not—tell us about pay
At Rallye Monte-Carlo on January 22, 2023, the FIA’s official post-event press conference record identified Ogier as the winner, Rovanperä second, and Neuville third, along with their teams and Rally1 Hybrid cars. That is evidence of the result at one event only; it does not validate the salary estimates or explain how teams set compensation. (FIA)
The official WRC season archive notes that Ogier entered selected rounds for Toyota in 2023. His schedule is relevant context for his season, but it does not establish what his reported salary covered or how it was calculated. (WRC 2023 season archive)
