But the suspension did not simply remain in force: the State put it on hold, cancelled the order on July 1, and issued a fresh show-cause notice. The Supreme Court directed the State to decide that notice. The sources cited below do not establish the State’s final decision or the products’ current licensing or sale status.
What Patanjali told the Supreme Court
In an affidavit dated May 16, 2024, Patanjali said it had stopped sales of the affected formulations. The Supreme Court’s August 13 judgment records that sales through Patanjali’s online platform had stopped on May 9. These are accounts attributed to Patanjali and the affidavit; they do not establish that every retailer or stockist had stopped selling the products. Supreme Court judgment dated August 13, 2024
The affidavit named formulations including Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, BP Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, Livamrit Advance, and Livogrit. This is not a complete list of the 14: the available judgment excerpt does not expose the remaining names. Naming a formulation here does not indicate that it remains licensed or available.
How the regulatory and court proceedings unfolded
- April 15, 2024: Uttarakhand’s State Licensing Authority issued an order suspending manufacturing licences for 14 Patanjali Ayurved and Divya Pharmacy products. The authority cited repeated violations of relevant laws and rules, according to its submission reported by The Indian Express on April 30, 2024.
- May 14: The Supreme Court allowed time for affidavits setting out steps to remove advertisements and recall affected medicines from stockists and other agencies. It preserved the respondents’ right to challenge the suspension in the appropriate forum. Supreme Court order dated May 14, 2024
- May 16: Patanjali filed the affidavit saying it had stopped sales and identifying affected formulations.
- May 17 to July 8: As recorded in the Supreme Court’s July 30 order, the State put the April suspension on hold on May 17, formed a committee, received its report on June 29, cancelled the suspension order on July 1, and issued a fresh show-cause notice on July 8. The State said Patanjali responded on July 19. Supreme Court order dated July 30, 2024
- July 30: The Court directed the State to decide the fresh notice before the next hearing and communicate its decision to Patanjali.
- August 13: The Supreme Court issued a judgment concluding a separate contempt proceeding. That proceeding’s outcome should not be treated as the State’s final decision on the products’ licences.
What the July order means for product status
The July order records that the April suspension was cancelled and replaced by a fresh notice process. It does not establish what the State ultimately decided in response to that notice. The order stated: “The State Government is directed to pass an order pursuant to its show cause notice before the next date of hearing and communicate the same to the respondent No.5.”

Accordingly, the April suspension alone cannot establish the products’ status after July 1. Buyers should not infer from Patanjali’s earlier affidavit—or from the cancellation of the April order—that any particular product is currently licensed or on sale.
