American Eagle flights are operated by five airlines: Envoy Air, Piedmont Airlines, PSA Airlines, Republic Airways and SkyWest Airlines. American Eagle is the brand for these regional flights, not one airline operating every flight.
Which airlines operate American Eagle flights?
American Airlines identifies these five operators for regional codeshare flights doing business as American Eagle:
- Envoy Air Inc.
- Piedmont Airlines Inc.
- PSA Airlines Inc.
- Republic Airways Inc.
- SkyWest Airlines Inc.
The list appears in American’s conditions of carriage. The airline operating a particular flight depends on the itinerary.
Is American Eagle a separate airline?
No. American Eagle is the name American uses for its regional flying network; the operating company is one of the five carriers above. American’s January 14, 2014 announcement explains a common source of confusion: American Eagle Airlines, Inc. changed its company name to Envoy Air, while the American Eagle brand and livery continued.

How can you tell which airline operates your flight?
Check the operating-carrier detail in the specific itinerary or booking information rather than inferring the operator from the American Eagle brand. American’s agency guide gives examples of the wording: “OPERATED BY SKYWEST AIRLINES AS AMERICAN EAGLE” and “OPERATED BY ENVOY AIR AS AMERICAN EAGLE.” These are examples, not a guarantee that every consumer booking display uses the same layout. The examples appear in American’s Modern Retailing Content Implementation Guide.

The official sources establish the five operators and their ownership or contract relationships. They do not provide a dated, complete comparison of all five carriers’ fleets, aircraft types, routes or service characteristics. For a particular trip, the itinerary’s named operating carrier is the useful detail; the American Eagle label alone does not identify it.
